Legacy GT or 2.5 - Talk to me!
Discussion
Hi guys & gals!
I am looking at a lowish budget of £1-1.5K on a Legacy GT or 2.5?... Just wondered what the consensus is?... I had a 1992 2.2GX saloon a few years ago and loved it. The "main" car if you will is an Alfa 156 Veloce which the wife shall be using day in day out, so I am not averse to a set of spanners!!
I have a 20 mile round trip to work and want something that will "load lug" if needed, so really fancy another Legacy.
So 2.0 single/twin turbo or 2.5? Manual or auto?
As long as it is the estate I am not that fussed...
Are there different trim levels?
Have seen a couple on Autotrader about the 1995-1997 mark?
Any advice or buying tips appreciated!!
Thanks
Reedy

The earlier 2.5 engines have a reputation for head gasket failures. The earlier DOHC engine seems to have suffered from internal HG leaks while the later SOHC engine seems to have suffered external leaks. The problems seem to have been overcome in about 2003/4. I have no idea how significant the problems were - the internet allows any problem to get blown way out of proportion - however, its worth looking at www.subaruoutback.org/ because the Outback does not use the 2 litre engines so they have a good pool of info on the 2.5 engines.
