..this time its me asking! (I may have a griff anorak but not the boots!)

Just from going on what has been written by others I would go straight out and get Bridgestone Potenza S03s

But...
What is the competition really like?
I see the competition as being
- Toyo Proxes T1S
- Goodyears Eagle F1 GSD3
- Avon ZZ3
any others?

The price difference for a full set is about £100 so not really a huge amount in it.

You'll probably have gathered that there was a bit of reticence when the SO3 replaced the SO2s.

It was, as our esteemed Mr Heath will confirm much more eloquently than I, down to the harder sidewalls. That's why Toyos and others became the choice for some.

Having run a Griff on SO2 and then SO3 I have no hesitation in saying that the Bridgestones are very predictable, need a few hundred miles to "cure" during which they are between "fun" and "lethal" on the scale and after which you won't have any qualms 'til your down to 2-3mm.

I suspect that, whatever you're wearing, you will curse a wet road surface with all the power at your disposal. At the end of the day it won't be tyre choice that saves you!

I also meant to add where is a good place to buy them.
I drive past Micheldever on my way to work everyday and am hoping they will be competitive.

online - either www.blackcircles.co.uk or www.mytyres.net were the cheapest for the Cerb (Toyo's and Bridgestones).

My tyres brings up a lot of choices.
Anyone tried anything other than what I have suggested? What about the Continental Supper Contacts?

I take it you just take these down to your tyre fitters and pay them to fit them. I got my front S0-3s 225's for a tonne 7 each fitted, balanced etc from Jet tyres, I'm not sure how wide spread this company are tho.

Mytyres cannot get Toyo's until May 1st minimum (rears 245/45/16) and can't even give me a date for the fronts (205/55/15).
If you buy the tyres only you need to budget around a tenner for fitting, balancing etc. per wheel.

Although you do have to find somewhere willing to fit tyres that you've bought elsewhere. A lot of the places round here aren't interested unless you've bought the tyres from them.

Micheldever have always been extremely competative on price. Bracknell Tyres and Headley Tyres (nr. Newbury) are also very good on price too.

i'm on toyo's and there sticky enough unless the road is covered in ice. DOH!! havn't got through the first set though so dont know how long they last.

get yourself a set of original wheels to set them off properly though.

DustyC - I think your choice depends on what you need from the car. Comfort or performance? The Toyo's work well in really low profiles (like the 35 profiles on my Cerb) but owing to the soft construction of the tyre carcass itself I'd be concerned that they may be to soft in a taller profile tyre. The Bridgestone is a stronger construction making it a bit a pain at 35 profile but probably more responsive than a Toyo on taller profiles. I think this has been mentioned on previous threads. Also someone mentioned Brigdestones being popular with hill climbers. I think that speaks for itself.

Blackcircles have an extensive list of nationwide fitters. The prices include fitting and delivery to the fitter. All you do is turn up, watch them be fitted and then drive away.

BTW I don't work for blackcircles - just a happy customer.

Profile says you are in Hampshire. Bracknell tyres supplied me with SO3 245 rears for about £115 each (last summer). Number must be "in the book" somewhere but they are near the rubbish tip in Bracknell - not that that helps narrow it down

For comparison AA were quoting £240 and Kwik Fit £185.
