mazdaontrack.co.uk - chances are there will be a mazda or two at their events
If you havent before, i highly recommend their finmere days.. basically a chance to cock about and see how sideways you can get
Looking at doing the Oulton Park day on 17th November with MOT. Thing is, it's £149 for non members but Circuit Days have the same event at the same price but you get a 20 min lesson thrown in (MOT charge £25) I've had a lesson from them at Anglesey and it was rather good.....

Really?
I've only ever been on days using their own cars, never mine. Isn't there a slight risk you might damage it or someone else's? Or roll off in a blazing inferno?
Do you intend to drive way beyond your own abilities?I've only ever been on days using their own cars, never mine. Isn't there a slight risk you might damage it or someone else's? Or roll off in a blazing inferno?
It's as much risk as you want to take.
The only time I've ever been off track, also involved car to car contact. My friend was driving... and was trying to copy my speed/lines. Problem was, although I'm a novice, I had done 10+ days, and 3 at that track. It was his first ever day, and first ever lap. He went in too quickly, lost it, and as we were sliding sideways across the grass, I looked across him and saw the porsche make exactly the same error. Ironically, if we hadn't, he probably wouldn't have.
I'd still maintain though, that unless you are pushing your limits, off track - possible. Off track into barrier - unlikely, Car to car accident - not likely. (At a well marshaled day...)
I learnt many lessons that day.
Among them, make sure you clarify who pays for damage if allowing anyone else to drive... And start slowly!Edited by Dimski on Saturday 25th September 18:58

No, but finding the limit (yours and the car's) is what it's all about and to find it, you need to overstep it a little, no?That's the fun of doing it in a 19 year old, 1.6 litre MX5 - the speeds aren't that great and it doesn't cost a fortune to fix, not that I'd put myself or anyone else at risk.
I must admit I'm surprised, I thought everyone took out track insurance, but a sensible approach from everyone is reassuring and Mazda On Track seems pretty well organised. Can't say I fancy walking home anyway....

But, I think unless you are really pushing it, you can (certainly for your first few days) explore your limits without really risking a bend.
I'm hoping to get my '5 back in early November, and will do some more days after then. I tend to do more from Oct-March than in the summer, there are more on Saturdays and they're cheaper.

Opps!
I didn't go off track though!
