Black carpet

I'm thinking about having black carpet in my lounge, but not 100% sure, mainly because of it showing everything.

Has anyone got black or very dark and regretted it?

I have a dark wine coloured in my lounge. It does show up the smallest of things but, not so bad with the spilling of red wine. The downside being, it will make a room seem a tad dark.
I guess it all depends on how much traffic the room gets. Mine gets very little so, all things considered, no real problem.

I've got 2 huge windows either end of room and will have cream walls.
My main worry is my cream chihuahua hair. Or I could just dye the dogs fur black

We had a dark blue carpet in a house we rented.
Absolute 'mare, you could go over it with the dyson, then by the time you had put it away it would need doing again.
Every time the landlord came around he apologised about it!

Now if a black carpet wasn't loopy enough, having a Chihuahua (Mexican sleeve dog) is loopier. But the definition of loopy has to be one who dies their Mexican sleeve-dog to match their carpet...

I once compained that my jacket showed the hairs from my tortoisehsell cat. They said 'Buy a tortoiseshell jacket!'. To this day I remember that logic.

Yes, I'm thinking it might be loopy to have a black carpet, but I really fancy one, I've tried cream (thats why my dog is cream) and it was too light!

We've had a black carpet in our lounge for about 6 or 7 years now. Yes, any household debris is more easliy seen, but that hasn't put us off. Possibly a bigger problem is fading. Ours has not, because we have a foil backed light blocking blind across the patio doors, primarily because we use a projector, and they don't work well other than in low light conditions. We tend to leave the blind down 80+% of the time, and this has definitely stopped any fading.

I was having a similar discussion with a couple of friends last night about my place. I have a cream coloured carpet and a dark haired cat so we were weighing up how easy it would be to dye the cat white. It was decided the cat would kick our arse so he can leave his fluff everywhere if he wants

Wise move. My accountant, who doesn't quite understand cats, had to go and A&E to have his wounds dressed after trying to put a cat into a basket that it didn't wish to be put into...

We have a black with silver/grey flecks carpet in the bedroom. Looks great and a better idea for us than solid black.

Mum and dad used to have a royal blue carpet in the lounge (late 70's) looked great when clean but did show rubbish really easily.

I'm not fussed too much about it showing up day to day stuff as I vacuum every day anyway.

I will go out and have a look at some tomorrow as I want a really thick one.

We've got a black "short haired" rug in our hall and it's covered in crap minutes after being hoovered!

However we've got a black "long haired rug" in the living room and it hides everything.

Yep, put a jet-black carpet in one of the kids rooms. Needs hoovering daily, but does look cool

i once sold a black carpet to a customer for the whole house and warned her it would show every spec but with her chrome furniture it looked stunning, go for it

You won't be able to spot ants or other creepy-crawlies that invade your home (speaking from experience as i have just spent most of last week eliminating tiny black mites/worms in my bathroom).
