The end of the 2010 btcc season if nearly at the end so as anybody got any news for btcc 2011. Any new drivers teams or manafactures entering for 2011. Teams that should be ther next year are

Honda civic 2 cars matt neal and grodan sheddan manafacture support using new ngtc engine
AMD MILTEK and yrc vw golf with new ngtc engine driver shaun halluby
Speedworks 1 toyota avensis maybe 2 if budget allows first of the teams to use the new ngtc avensis
Team dynojet 1 toyota avensis for frank wrathall
Tom bordmens team running up too 4 seat leons
Jeff smith and Andrew jordan with pirtek racing in vauxhall vectras with ngtc engines
Motorbase 2-3 ford focus from team aon with ngtc engine liam griffin, matt jackson + 1 more driver
Team aon 2-3 focus most likly the new world touring car focus tom chilton most likely +1-2 more drivers
Audi a4 run by rob austin racing made by same company as the avensis 2 cars drivers not confirmed

I thought Volvo gave permission for a satellite team to run Dahlgren for a 2011 programme in WTCC with a view to a full Volvo works entry in 2012?

You're right got my news mixed up, it's the WTCC. BTCC not yet confirmed

I did look twice as well as I thought it was going to be someone else.

I don't think the BTCC Volvo news will be too far away now though if they are.

Not sure if Andy Hack will be entering the Vectra he bought last year or not. If he does it may be that Pyro will run it for him.

I'll ask him at Britcar this weekend.

Arthur Forster did say that due to the testing ban 2010 was really a year long test session and that they were working on a 3 year plan in the BTCC so I suspect he'll be back with Martin Depper.

Of course there's also Dave Newsham if he can raise the budget?

Martyn Bell I understand is hoping to move into team management so is unlikely to reappear behind the wheel.

There are loads of rumours at the moment but that's just what they are. Last year a lot of stuff wasn't settled until the week before media day and we're expecting 2011 to be similar.

Without wishing to put a downer on this I think it's a huge shame. YRC could be supporting new talent in a reasonable car but instead they're supporting a 40something 'gentleman' driver in what is clearly the worst car on the grid. I'd much rather see them putting their money behind someone like Phil Glew in a Lacetti, 3 series Vectra or Leon rather than a businessman in a Golf which was solely picked for marketing reasons to promote his business.

The appeal for YourRacingCar with AMD is probably that as a self run team their budget will be tiny compared to what some of the other drivers who buy their seat at a team is. It may even be less than a Clio budget - I'm guessing.


There was some chat recently on twitter about Volvo and Chris Brown of sunshine.co.uk said Volvo approached him at the beginning of the year for sponsorship. As far as I know this project involved Plato quite heavily but I don't know how his situation with Chevy looks for 2011. (if he is still involved with Volvo or not I wonder - as it seems to be even less of a works team than the Chevy one!)

True, but that car still has a terrible chassis, possibly even worse than the Focus...

Shaun is a nice guy, but he'd be the first to admit that he's not the best driver in the world and in fact he has previously said there's another second a lap in the car with a better driver. I thought YRC was about supporting exciting drivers and talent so I really can't see the logic in their decision.

IMO the BTCC has too many gentleman drivers for a series which is supposed to be the pinnacle of UK saloon car racing.

What would you prefer then. Without the 'gentleman drivers', there wouldn't be a series - FACT.
Why is (say) John Georges money less welcome that (say) Alex Macdowall's. The simple fact is that nearly (if not all) of the drivers in the BTC are paying for their seats, one way or the other.
I think it is hugely disrespectful to these guys to suggest that, in effect, they have no place in the BTC. It has always been the case that there have been 'privateers' in the BTC. In the past they may have been in class B, or whatever the current name was, but they were there.
