It looks like an attempted axial roll, loses attitude through the knife-edge and as he gets inverted pauses to push and recover the correct nose attitude. Roll doesn't completely stop and as he rushes to complete, almost seems to be "pulling through" towards the end and the plane accelerates into the ground.

Very sad.
