Golf Mk4 Starting Issues

I have exhausted several other sources so thought I'd try the collective knowledge of PH with this one.....

I've got a 1.6 petrol Mk 4 golf (X reg) that's having trouble starting when warm. It starts straight away from cold, but after warming up will cut off after about 10 mins (sooner if you try and drive it). We've replaced and checked spark plugs and leads, its had a new throttle body, engine temp sensor, air filter, battery and EGR valve but nothing seems to work It will start from warm occasionally, but only if you take the top cover of the air box off. We've tried plugging it in to a computer but its not coming up with any fault codes, nor are there any lights coming up on the dashboard.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

That was one of the first things we tried, it's had a brand new one from VW and it hasn't made any difference
