Posh Insurance
Discussion
I am just about to get my first proper motor- an E39 M5- The car will be used mostly at the weekend as I walk to work and back. My question to the forum is if specialised insurance is worth it?
I don't really require a like for like hire car if the thing is off the road but I would value any opinion on the differences between "supermarket" type insurance and specialist type insurance.
I wonder if the difference is a supermarket insurer would write it off (for a pittance) sooner than a specialist?
Many thanks for your help,
Jim

Go for a specialist. I used Greenlight this year on my M3 which quoted me about £400 less than the closest high street place.
I have a friend who insures his M5 with A-Plan. I think Greenlight came back with a similar quote but wanted an active tracker subscription on the car too (extra £100 odd a year to factor into the price).

A-plan again. Not just good customer service, happy to call you back at the time you ask and cheaper for me, but they put the OH on my policy for lees than £150. For comparison, Direct Line, Aviva and Tescos who were all less than £200 away from the price A-plan quoted for just me wanted around £1000-£1500 extra to put her on.

Elephant or one of the other Admiral brands have been invariably cheapest for me (about £500 for an e39 M5). The specialists never get close.
+1 for Admiral. My (fully comp) Multicar policy on the Corsa and VX220 is about half of what it would cost to insure my old Impreza on it's own (TPFT).Gassing Station | General Gassing [Archive] | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
