hello,
my Wife's classic RB5 impreza has a juddering clutch and an oil leak which we have been told is proberbly leaking onto the clutch so its a gearbox out job to repair and replace.
Has anyone ever removed the gearbox from a classic on the drive and if so what sort of a job to do ?
regards

i think the clutch judder from cold is a bit of a standard thing on those cars, as long as it is ok after it warms up a bit, the oil leak obviously needs looking at if its more than just the odd drop.

i have driven about 10 classics and every single one had a slight judder from cold, the warm ones didnt.

i think a garage would charge about £450 for a clutch change.

If you are moderately mechanically capable you will manage yourself- just get the car up on ramps/stands and have the trolley jack supporting the box and it is all pretty straight forward from there smile

First off go to another garage. This one doesn't sound like it knows what its talking about.

Have you seen the oil leak yourself? I'd wager any leak is likely to be rocker cover gaskets which are easy if fiddly to replace.
