Hi..I'm thinking of buying flat in one of these areas around £300k. What are they like to live in and what are the downsides? Advice welcome. Checked out Walton on Saturday and it was fine. ps Fast train access to central London is important. Thanks

Why one of those areas?

You could expand your search to Staines, Ascot, Maidenhead, even out to Reading, Newbury, etc.

Wimbledon has even better train access and it begins with 'W', or perhaps Woking with its fast train service.

Fast train?

That's not Windsor then, unless you want to go via Slough.

I used to live in Weybridge, I loved it would move back tomorrow if I could afford to buy there. The high street had some decent places to eat and drink, quirky shops, nice pubs near the River. The train station is easily accessible, parking is relatively cheap, train to waterloo is about 25 mins. Guildford is not far for a nice place to shop and go out, local villages very pleasant. I would advise against Woking, Walton is ok, don't really know Windsor well enough to comment.

Weybridge is very nice, a class or two above Walton. Trains are fast, with services only stopping at Walton, Surbiton and Waterloo. River acces is fantastic and it still retains a special "village" feel unlike many of the neighbouring towns. You will pay a premium there but you get what you pay for. Prices have stabilised (rises have slowed but never have fallen) over the last couple of years unlike many areas.

I used to live there but moved out of the UK a few years ago. If I moved back, it's the place I would head for.

I have a house in Walton, I rather like it there.

There is a rather nice development in the highstreet called the heart, or something similar. It has few decent restuarants beneath and a sainsbury's next door.

Windsor is overpriced, has no parking, full of tourists, barrack town & if it was called South Slough you'd not go near it. Apart from that it's not bad!

I have a house in Windsor and I love the place. It does have tourists, but they are kept to the main thoroughfares and the tepidly average restaurants. There is also Windsor Great park which is wonderful, the river and the transport links are not bad (M4, M3, M25) You can also be in Leicester sq in 1 hour door to door if you live in the centre. Parking is not perfect, but it's not too bad with the permit system and there are a few really nice places to eat/drink. I'm currently living abroad, but when I return, it will be to Windsor.

Settling on Weybridge or Walton. Getting 800+ sq ft, gated, 2 bathrooms, garage and balcony are musts. Seems flat roofed and 60's style are about all that are on the market offering these.

Just to add Twyford and Wokingham into the mix as both are on main lines to London. I don't know how prices compare to those you've looked at though (moved to the area about 10 years ago myself), just a thought.

Must check out Wokingham...it was completely off my radar. With all due respect to Weybridge folk...is there much going on there? It was desperately quiet on Saturday afternoon.

Any reason against Woking? Just that I have been looking for a flat there, around the station. Seems a nice place, fast train to London, near the M25.

Wokingham is either a direct 1h10-1h15 to Waterloo, or a short hop to Reading then change on to one of the fast trains to Paddington taking just under an hour total.

And not a lot going on either.

Yeah I know, it's got the Thames for walks and boating, The Great Park for picnics, Windsor Castle, decent shops in the old GWR station, a thriving theatre where plays are often pre-shown prior to the West End, some good restaurants, close to the M4 and rail links to London and it's close to LHR in case you work in an indusrtry where you have to travel a lot. I know what you mean, it's st. wink

Weybridge is nice, as long as you can get past the fact the pretty much everyone there has their head so far up their own arse they can see the back of their own teeth. Eating out is pretty good.

Walton is a few steps down the ladder from weybridge, some nice shops there now, and plenty of flats around thanks to all the developements going/gone up. Plus you can always wander past the Aston/Alfa Garage biggrin

Windsor is nice, as long as you dont mind all the tourists when you pop in to the high street for a coffee.

What about Hampton Court or Kingston?

Wouldnt touch Staines
