Not a missing picture X or a fuel additive, but a gantry sign message on the Forth Road Bridge.
The whole message said "Red X is Mandatory"
Strewth I thought, visibilty is going to be s

But I think they were referring to having a large red X above your lane, which most people up here don't seem to understand means do not proceed in this lane.

...reminds me of the time, about 25 years ago, working in the future mother-in-laws back garden, when I removed the plugs from my Mini Clubman deposited 25mm of Redex down each plug hole, stuffed the holes with rags then cranked it over.
What I can only describe as 'oily clag from the devils bowels' was then quite efficiently spurted all over said aforementioned mother-in-law kitchen window!
'twas a right royal bugger to clean!

Yep.Did it to a few old minis with quite good results (improved MPG and 'power').
The thick black smoke cloud for the next few miles of diving is not so good a result though.
You hear conflicting stories on treating an engine this way, some say it can remove 'useful' deposits and clean things too much and you end up with ring and seal problems, others will tell you it works wonders! Suppose its down to individual circumstances.

I expect they are only allowed to put something innocuous in it now, water maybe
Have you used cuprinol in recent years, utterly rubbish and lasts all of 6 months before flaking off!

Seen it a good few times in the mornings and passengers in my car (who drive) have commented !

Its not meant to fire. The rags are to help soak up the sludge (and keep it inside the engine) whilst you crank it a few times. I hadn't put them in firm enough and underestimated the compression a little 1098cc unit can produce.

'I once used Redex to de-coke my Austin Metro. They advise that you should run the engine until hot, remove the spark plugs, pour so many mls into the cylinders, put the plugs back, turn the engine a couple of time to spread it around and re-connect the spark plug leads before trying to start the engine! Easy really, and that's just what I did. There was a huge bang on starting, with a cloud of soot shooting out of the exhaust, followed by so much white smoke that the road I was on became impassible and other drivers had to stop!'
