Geabox oil level and type?

Just changed the gearbox on my 4.5 and I have put 2lts of oil into it and it still doesn't seem to be full.... How much does it take? And what type do people use?
Was recomended castrol smx-s but now remebering that the fluid should be red... this was normal engine oil colour... will this be ok or have I wasted 26 quid?

You should be using ATF in the gearbox as per the owners manual. The fill plug is at the correct level, so you fill it until it just starts to dribble out when the box is horizontal.

After searching through various forums it looks like I need judt under 3ltrs, and this smx-s should increase the life of the box as its fully sythetic (by nearly 500% according to some american research!)

If you want to search put your search string in double quotes and follow it with '+f=6'(without single quotes)

I've now used Castrol Driveline Syntrax Universal due to comments about 5th gear failure. Has worked OK on a normal basis.

SPAnk It 2010 will highlight any probs.

Top tip! Will remember that one... Off to halfords to get some more gear oil and fill her up and go for a test drive.
