The end of HDMI? HDbaseT
Discussion
Looks really interesting: http://www.hdbaset.org/
Think next generation, Playstation 4, huge 3D TV's, next gen Bluray (100Gb discs?) things like that. There are too many of the old generation out there right now to give HDMI a run, wait until the next gen start adopting to release a new standard in connectivity.
Essentially it seems no different to HDMI over CAT5, except that the conversion from HDMI doesn't need to happen at the TV end. Seems like a logical step!

I really don't see this gaining any traction personally. By the time that the industry is ready for a new standard I reckon that there will be an established way of sending 4k video over wireless...
There are already HDBaseT extenders in the marketplace. It's finally a proper digital transport solution with the thought that Intel should have put into HDMI in the first place.
Given the genesis of HDMI it would be good if a format solution came in that was designed around providing a quality solution that worked well for the consumer and was also future proof. The constant updating of the HDMI standard is an absolute joke given that these things quite often need burying in walls or floors.

Consider the situation where there are multiple sources and multiple screens.
If you have considered that, now it's been put to you, then you're doing much better than Intel, who developed the pile of s
t that is HDMI
This isnt a bandwidth game anymore, its engineering around the massive, obvious, gaping flaws in HDMI
