Just seen this this morning, its pretty sad. Normally I wouldnt turn a blind eye to a story like that, but the company I work for did a little bit of work this guy, first for his business then for him personally. I met him a couple of times and he was the nicest person you could imagine - he was smart, and down to earth, a self made millionaire who worked his staff hard but always looked after them and I think they all respected him. He also gave huge amounts of money away to charity ever year.

After we had installed some stuff for him he came to see us, obviously did the whole profesional thing with the directors but he also came down and personally thanked the lads down in the factory, and we got a really nice little penknife from him. A small, but very much appreciated gesture.

His company Hesco Bastion is just on Cross Green right round the corner from me, he grew up on Halton moor I beleive.

Shame.

His company was somehow involved in motorsport aswell wasn't it? Certain I have seen Hesco Bastion on the side of numerous Porsches over the years.

He was in the YEP a week or so ago after donating another 10 million to charity.

On Look North last night it said he had given 23 million pounds to charity.
A tragedy not just for his family, but for society in general when someone that benevolant dies in any circumstance, never mind an accident.

There was a nice feature on him on the Jeremey Vine show on Radio 2 this lunch time. Sounded like a great man.

did indeed sound like one of the good guys...not sure the Segway contract was the best bit of business as they're not legally usable on public property, but that's by the by, I guess.

I missed this the first time round, but just seen a report on the coroner's findings. Seems he probably fell because he was just being courteous and trying to let someone else pass. frown
