Yep, one I use is a rover specialist / Honda garage and they don't mess you about. Good lot!

Usually have no idea whether i can or should trust them or not.

Generally just cross my fingers and pray they have someone capable do the work. Basically you are completely at their mercy.

I don't trust anyone. On anything.

I always give garages (reasonably detailed) written instructions.

The Elise is serviced by a well respected specialist.

The Nissan was last done at the main dealer - I've not reason to especially trust/distrust them.

The Subaru could do with a more thorough service than I am willing to get involved in - could do with a cambelt change, etc. There is a little garage at the edge of the village. When I replaced the rear discs on the Nissan, I couldn't get the calliper retaining bolts undone. I got him to crack them for me, and he wouldn't take any payment (so I dropped a few beers in later). Nice bloke. He will get the business for the Subaru.

For the van and my 75 I use the garage 2 doors away. For the Discovery a mobile indi from the disco3 forum and for the Noble and my previous TVRs I've used Kerridges for 18 years.I trust all of these, and very very few others.

Don't trust them at all. Which is why I am constantly looking around for American car specialists.

I don't trust them at all but it's no problem because the car is a company vehicle.

The only thing I tend to be very careful of is that I check their work for safety related bits (brakes/wheel torque, stuff like that).

Yes because I do it myself!

Absolutely - I went to them first to get some tyres fitted, the bloke running it has a head full of exploded diagrams of engines and gearboxes, he's a genius. Use them for MoTs and anything I can't do myself - wheel bearings and the like.

But I still prefer doing my own servicing, just so I keep my hand in.

Use specialists for all the cars - cheaper, better customer service, better quality work. No brainer
