Has anyone elses car insurance rocketed sky high this year?

My insurance is due in two weeks time and my brokers have quoted me over £600 yikes that is a rise of over £200 from last years premium.

I did a quick search on-line yesterday and I was getting quotes for £384.00, yet my current insurers can't explain why their quote is so high this year. They did a recalculation on it and it still came out at £606.00.

Looks like these comparison websites can be quite useful at times. Last year when I checked they were more expensive, but this year not so.

Ditto on the wifes insurance, except the online quotes are no cheaper. Fed up of it.

Some tit hit her car whilst it was parked outside the house a couple of years ago, cost me money then and still costing me now......dont get me started.

I suspect this is due to the bad weather we had last winter? Having said that my renewal was the same as it was last year, got another coming up for renewal in a few weeks though...

Strangely I've found the exact opposite - the last year or two has been the first time i haven't had an inflated renewal, and have actually stayed with the same insurer.

Prior to that, they have always applied the Lazy Tax at renewal time

I'm 19 and drive a group 17 car, no NCB, my excess is more than what you pay for insurance!

My mother just had her renewal through from a well known insurance co specialising in women drivers.

Going through one of the many comparison websites, it came up with a quote £60 cheaper, with the exact same company!

She now has to send her proof of no claims back to her insurance company so that they can verify her no claims discount!

A rise of over £200 in my opinion is extortionate especially for a basic Audi. My premium has remained the same for the last three years. What annoys me is that they cannot offer any explanation to this sudden rise. They are brokers so go with the cheapest quotes that come up for varying companies (like the online search engines). Even the girl I spoke to was baffled by it all.

Time to move my insurance around.

The car you're driving is largely irrelevant. You're paying for whiplash claims, fraudulent claims and claims for like-for-like hire cars, etc. That's why insurance has hiked this year

I paid 10p a litre less for diesel last year. Should I demand that's the same every year or less?

This is the answer.

You'll pay more than last year but shopping around is the key to a good deal.

The quotes I've been given yesterday are exactly the same as I've paid for the last three years. Even the most expensive ones were coming out cheaper than my current insurers quote.

I quite expect a slight hike in premiums every year but not over £200. My current insurance have called me back and they still can't explain why their quote is coming out so high.

even the insurance on my TVR's were never this high (in fact cheap than my Audi), shame they're such gas guzzlers.

Sign of the times I guess were it pays to shop around.

Is 37 a dodgey age to get to?

I have one other named driver on the policy and he's 27 so maybe it's him pushing the premium up. Though he actually dropped my premium last year when I added him.

This for me too. Renewal just came in at £250, from £280 ish.

Couldn't get with £100 of it on price comparisons websites.

Perhaps the insurers no longer offer such good deals to comparison websites/brokers?

Can I do tomorrow's "Insurance is Extortionate" thread? fk me, why isn't there just a massive thread 400 pages long instead of a new one every day with the same complaints and the same reasons being given EVERY SINGLE fkING DAY!?!

All bks IMO - maybe a teeny rise, but it's more and more insurers applying the "if you don't ask, you don't get" principle. i.e. If they don't ask you to pay £600 you never will, so it's worth a punt. Usually getting an online quote from the same insurer will render the result you were expecting, and then you ring up and they say, eeeer yeah.... ok then.

They're in it to make money, so why wouldn't they? (wkers)

Just swapped insurance from my V-reg 1.8 MX-5 to an S-reg 1.6Si Escort I just purchased (while the Mazda is having some work done) and the price went UP by £150.

hehe

I love the dichotomy between the "Aaaargh, why is my insurance so expensive???" and "Aaaargh, why won't the insurer pay up for this???". Well, fugnut, if they paid fout for everything your premium would be a million pounds. Even if you drive some sh!tty Audi hunchback.

Oh, and I renewed last month on the MX5 - £350 fully comp, protected.

Just got a quote on a group 19 potential new toy - £550, ditto.

Audi hunchback.
Niles: The rental agency didn't have a single luxury car left. They stuck me with some vehicle I believe they call a hunchback.

Frasier: No. I think that would be a hatchback, Niles.

Niles: It's painted panic-button red, with a large rear window that pops open.

Frasier: That would be the hatchback.

Niles: Well, there's a novel idea: name the car after its most hideous feature. I presume it was a toss-up between "hatchback" and "what's that odor coming from the floor?"

classic.
