Hi All,

We need to change the front tyres on our 55 reg Cooper- running original spec Run-Flats at present but fancy changing to "normal" tyres all round having read of the improvements in handling and ride comfort that are acheiveable- what's the current thinking on best options please? Looking for best compromise between performance, comfort and value? all input welcome and much appreciated!

Cheers

I rate Yokohama Parada Spec 2's very highly, excellent grip, smooth ride (though anything's smooth compared to RFT's) and fairly cheap.

Other tyres I've heard good things about on MINI's are Toyo Proxes T1R, Avon ZZ3, Falken FK452.

Last time I was in the Mini dealership I asked about changing to non-runflats.

I was told that you can now specify non-runflats when ordering a new Mini.

In future I won't be suffering runflats while waiting for them to wear out.

I'm about 500 miles into 4 new Falken 452's on my R56 Cooper S. The difference is amazing. It's difficult to describe, but the whole car feels like it makes sense. I do a lot of London commuting, and I was beginning to hate the mini because of its unforgiving ride over speedbumps/poor roads. The new tyres have made the world of difference - and a lot of the usual squeeks and rattles that plague these cars have gone away. As far as the Falkens go, I picked them after a fair bit of research and reading all the forums. Haven't heard a bad thing about the, I got them fitted for £330 (for four) through black circles. Almost half the price of replacement Dunlop SP1 RF. Add another £10 for a can of tyre weld from Halfords, and your away.

Do it.

Wot he said ^^^^^^

I've had the Falken 452's on for a week or so and wished I'd done it sooner. Went from 195/55/16 to 205/50/16 as most on 16s seem to have done and the car is a whole lot better for it. I'll never have run-flats again.....

I went from 205/45/17 to 215/45/17 - they don't make an exact match, but visually it would be hard to see the difference.

My R56 came with Bridgestone Potenza RE050A non-runflats as standard. I obviously have nothing to compare them to on the Mini but they are pretty grippy and the ride is not bad either. I think you now have to actually request runflats, certainly on the 17s.

I had a thread about this a couple oif weeks ago, had a few decent suggestions, think I'm going for Toyo's next, but mechanical problems have taken precedence.

thanks for this thread! Am just getting some non-runflats for my station car, a cooper with 195/55/16s.
Just getting prices on 205/50/16s Falkens v's Toyos.
The mini2 forums I find so hard to navigate and find some decent feedback on tyres.
