Hi Everybody

Just bought in to the whole M thing............2006 in Indy Red, Sepang Bronze Leather, 47k miles, obligatory new clutch and an extended warranty. Absolutely gobsmacked by how good this thing is [apart from up-hill manoeuvring in reverse].

Looking forward to posting a few dopey newbie questions and hopefully none about expensive repair bills ........ well not too many anyway!

That picture took a while to load, and from your description, I was expecting the worst.

I test drove an E39 M5 in that burgundy red colour, and frankly, it was challenging, but on that E60, it looks pretty good.

I think that colour works so well on the M5, but then I love Sepang Bronze too. Congratulations from another new owner

You'll fit in well here hehe

As others have said, wasn't expecting to like it but do. Fits in nicely with the ethos of unsuspecting, just like an M should be smile

Don't be scared of the SMG. It taks a bit of getting used to but it's one of the key things that makes the M5 such an amazing experience. Really, it's no where near as terrible as the forums would have you believe. I stopped reading the forums afer a while because some of the stuff people write would put you off ever buying one. Far better to spend the time researching the different options [I fluffed up because I mistakenly thought that the Logic 7 stereo was standard and it turned out it wasn't and the car I bought didn't have it] and learn how to read the service screens so you can check all the various service intervals when you start to look at cars.
