Who does sensible multi-car insurance?

Hi Guys,

Ok, I'm in the situation where I have two BMW Coupe's (318 & 323) and I would like to insure both under a multi-car policy.

The policies I have quoted on are geared to cover multiple 'shared' cars in the household where each car is used by a different person with their own NCD on each.

My situation is one driver and two cars;

SO;

I need a policy which applies the drivers NCD to the policy rather than a particular vehicle.
Both vehicles are roughly the same insurance group and I can't drive them simultaneously

Anyone know of an insurer who can do this?

I think you may be pushing it a bit. From memory I believe that your NCD can only be applied to 1 policy.

Seems perfectly reasonable to me, the NCD is for the driver, nothing to do with the car(s).

I hear Admiral are quite good when it comes to Multicar, and mirroring your NCB.

Just insure one, and swap the plate between cars!


I'm interested in this too, as I currently have 2 cars. (Well, technically 3, but the Mk1 MR2 is off the road at the mo)

Well, it would be one policy covering 2 cars but the same driver.
I understand a policy where there are multiple drivers on the same car or multiple cars and drivers.
But with a single driver - they'll still drive in the same manner whichever of the cars they are in at the time - reasonable assumption?

Mirroring the NCD would be the clincher, but from doing Admiral multi-car quotes it looks like you have to nominate which drivers NCD goes against which car - I'll give them a call to confirm this.

I guess I'd have to swap the bodies too as one is blue and the other green

I had one for 3 cars 2 drivers with Zurich - seemed okay and did recognise NCD on all the cars (as I recall)

I did the Admiral thing for a few years. It's less aggro but overall more expensive than seperate policies IMHO

I've had admiral as well, it can work both ways cost wise. When I took out a multicar policy they gave me a years ncd on the second car. They will also give the named driver equivalent ncd if they take a policy in their own name.
I currently have a multicar policy with them but with only one car!
