Extra Long door security chain?

It's an odd one, Mother In Law moved into new place but front door in 8 inch recess so with standard security chain you can open it but you can't see who's there so it's next to useless. Does anyone know of an extra long door chain or a foot activated door stop to stop nasty people from getting in? ANy ideas gratefully received.

Can she not use one of those spyhole things?

Her front door has a sheet of misty glass in the obvious spyhole place, which whilst very pretty is a bit useless at identifying visitors and not conducive to hole drilling

B&Q will be able to sort you out a longer chain but just be mindfull that the longer the chain the easier it is to get a screwdriver inside the gap and prise off the plate holding the chain (or screw it off)

It could also be possible to get your hand in the gap and take the chain off too, depending on where the flat peice of chain is. (the one you fit through the gap)
