TVR Warranty, What TVR Warranty

After speaking to a number of TVR dealers although to please some members on here lets call them Specialists, it seems the standard warranty covers the following:

3 months goodwill ie it breaks down as you turn off the forecourt the dealer/specialist will repair it free of charge.

However, warranties exclude wear and tear, any failure either electrical or mechanical and pretty much anything else that can go wrong.

What is the point, really...I mean.

So my question. If a dealer warranty is about as much use as a chocolate fireman, what does a bought warranty cover, where can you buy them and for how much?

I added an AA Warranty on my secondhand S-Type Jag when I bought it last year.

It is the Gold Cover with all the options. Cover is for 3 years and cost me around £750.

I have already had a couple of claims, and it has saved me a shedload.

Whether the AA, or any of the third party Warranty companies, will cover a TVR is another question ......

I had a 12 month warranty on my T350 when I bought it from Barnet and within 8 months the clutch went and it was fully covered under the warranty, along with a number of other things in the first year.

I would have to say that from my personal experience of TVR Centre the warranty is well worth having.

Possible only guess is that when a claim needs to be made if the garage has no reputation for taking the piss they will get more done? I don't know.

There again compare an unwarranted car against a dealer warranted car and I suppose you are in the same situation.

Pretty sure the AA cover is for cars up to ten years old when the policy is taken out so many TVRs are effectively excluded.

I bought my Tuscan with the knowledge that with the exception of the engine I will be self insuring. The engine rebuild has 5 years of TVR Power unlimited mileage warranty (try getting that from Audi or BMW or Porsche on an engine rebuild!)

I made sure my car has has the biggest most expensive jobs done, so it has new clutch, new rad, re-build, new cats. What it does need is suspension upgrade and brake disks, but I am not expecting anything major, but I do put aside £150 per month until I have a £2k pot.

We bought a three year old Nissan Primera that needed a new engine at the first service 4 months later. The Nissan garage weren't going to cover it under the warranty until we got Nissan UK customer service involved.

We suspect they forgot to put oil back in it after the service before the road test, but they got rid of the engine very quickly before the AA specialist could inspect. Had a brand new engine crated down from the factory.

One of the advantages of buying from a dealer is that there is a warranty. However, if they can cut back on what it covers then they will. They are, after all, in business.

However, talk with the sales staff and ask for an extension of their warranty to cover things that you want. If they do not agree to it then walk.

My son-in-law had money in his pocket, already to buy. He drove a very nice Griffith that I felt was overpriced and fell for it. All he had to do was to get my daughter's OK on colour and he'd have handed his cash over. Then he asked about the warranty and he was not impressed. It was a well known dealer as well.

We were arranging for a visit to another outlet where the warranty was better and they had a Griff that I had already seen, then my daughter sprang some news and he needed something with four seats.

I've got an AA Breakdown warranty with my '96 Cerb. It pays the first £500 towards the repairs resulting from a breakdown (so long as you call the AA out and have them take it to the garage). It just paid for the recovery of my cerb and the fitment of a new oxygen sensor. Not bad for £80ish.

No. This is a commonly mis-understood thing. The extra £4K or so that you pay a dealer gives you the legal requirements to ensure that you have a reasonable car. (The advantage of a warranty to a dealer is that he is able to claim back some of his repair expenses from the warranty company but that's of no benefit you.)

Hi Derek,
My wife checked out my Mk1 Tuscan while I was in the US. I then arranged for a finance company to go and get it for me.
I negotiated the Warrantee details over the phone
When I got home and picked the car up from the Finance company they pointed out a small hand written detail in the warrantee document.
Just below the list of bits covered, engine, gearbox etc was written "Max. 300 pounds".
Engine lasted 34 miles.
Yes they have to make a living but they purchase insurance to cover warrantee issues.
I later found out that he new full well that the engine was shagged as he had it inspected by a mutual friend of ours in Middlewich.
Do you think 3 years is sufficient time to have passed for him to have completely forgotten me ?

But if that is the case, then it would cover an awful lot of cars that might need the warranty
