Dispatches: The Unions
Discussion
Did anyone else see this?
How can Derek Simpson earn £200k a year and pay £1 per week for his union bought £800k house?
And use the excuse 'I haven't taken a payrise for 2 years, I inherited this salary' Here's a novel idea, how about taking a pay cut like a lot of the private sector has in the last 2 years?
Those guys are socialist hypocrites
They should change the law to say that strike action can only be carried out with a majority of the members votes, not just the majority of those that bother to turn out to vote.

You read my mind... spooky. Only thing missing is that git Bob "soccer hooligan" Crow and Tony "walking corpse" Woodley to be added to this list of disease ridden sputum, much like the top of the new liebore party. How can Derek Simpson earn £200k a year and pay £1 per week for his union bought £800k house?

Ummmm....Bob would still be a communist if he didn't take a 6 figure salary like a good little capitalist
The only sensible bloke shown was the candidate for the General Secretary role who said that he would only draw the UK's average salary if elected (are you listening Commie Crow & co)
It is certainly "regrettable" the Prescott-like noses in the trough.
There's no denying that unions can, despite their limitations, provide useful support to workers at the bottom of the pile who might otherwise be very badly treated by unscrupulous employers.
As in all human activity, there's good 'uns and there's bad 'uns.

Emoployment law has moved on a lot, we now have the minimum wage etc. The UK should be encouraging employer rights now to kick start the economy.Didn't see the programme but one of the things that always gets me about the Unions (and to a lesser extent charities) is how they have enormous central offices in central London. I have never seen why they see the need for that. Whats the matter with an office in Sheffield or somewhere cheaper to buy or lease?

Because then we would not see how important they all are.TedMaul said:

The reason I say 'used to' is that now all rubbish collection is outsourced, there is no way on God's green earth a private contractor would allow that to happen.

Back in Saint Arthurs day the NUM did build a multi million pound office in the centre of Sheffield, only to vacate it and move back to London maybe five years later.flyingjase said:

Can we have that rule for general elections? Unless the majority of the population vote for a party we have no government. This is how much tax payer's money was used to fund the unions:
