Don't think it's a driving offence, but our BiB friends will know.
I think it's a criminal offence - big fine, community service, or 'inside?'
Not good!

It will be investigated by the Police and the Offences are far ranging to include, Deception, Uttering a Forged Document (Instrument) down to Theft etc etc.

Difficult to say, depends on who is investigating etc etc, but it is very serious.

I assume it was a complete fake, e.g. a colour copy or similar, as opposed to a stolen one? Whether or not the case can be proved could depend on a few things. E.g. of the car was MOT'd before he bought it, he could just claim to be thick, and that he never noticed.
On the other hand, if he's had the car for years and he's clearly got some explaining to do, then he could be arrested. All said though, I don't think the matter will be bothering the higher Courts. As for HMP - almost no chance.

Will certainly be "done' for an offence contrary to section 173 RTA 88 - Forging test certifcate or having one in in his possesion with intent to deceive.

This offence is triable on indictment (Crown Court) which could land a sentence of 2 years clink.

was basically a not very good dodgy copy.

it was used to make sure the car was taxed and didn't get hit by traffic wardens every day as is parked on street. while official mot was sorted out. to save a little money.

car was bought without road tax and mot.

car is now mot'd and taxed.

any ideas on what to say when police get in touch?
