Rear Mesh. Alternatives please

I am sure this has been done, but the search facility is down at the moment.

I have recently upgraded to the Pro alloy intercooler. I was shocked (in a good way) at the difference it made, but feel it could be even better as the air flowing through the intercooler is severely impeded by the number plate and mesh.
I have a plan in place for the number plate, but need advice on what mesh to use. Also, where to get it from.

Has anyone got any alternatives with pictures.

I used a wire mesh from halfords and reshaped it to fit the noble opening.

I also thought the airflow was a problem, but turns out it is not as i have been told very little air passes through the intercooler due to bad tumbling airflow over the centre of the rear clam, but still the above pic shows the simple modification i did to the back end, this is just a copy of what Adrian did to his car though.
The frame is made out of aluminium(30x3 flats), it may not show up very clear on this pic but there are also horizontal bars. The vertical bars really help to stiffen and strengthen up the back end of the clam and also the number plate light when using some ultrabright LED bulbs off of ebay lights up the entire intercooler on a night.
There are a few other methods to acheive better cooling, you can use a spray bar system which is also very simple to set up, NOS, water, CO2 but you have to relocate the air filters if they are still positioned in the intercooler box, or i am putting air scoops over the rear wheel arches which feed down to 76mm pipes and into the IC box, you get good airflow over the rear wheel arches so this should push a decent volume of air through the intercooler.
Firstly i would recommend repositioning the air filters if they are still positioned in the IC box, the little air that flows through there at present is being sucked up by the air filters, second port of call is to seriously heat shield the IC box(especially on the underside) and make sure it is sealed from the engine bay properly, i used triple heat shields on the underside of mine,and worth while getting a wrap for the hot part of the turbo.
When you get into air flow mods and cooling mods, it is one of the areas that can be improved on the most, but i just wanted to make you aware that opening up the back end of the car as a stand alone mod will not make much difference.

Airflow into the intercooler is ok, the air folds over the buttresses and straight into the i/c, there is a still spot behind the rear window, removing or modifying the grill on the i/c inlet as well will make a big difference, no restriction in or out will make whatever intercooler you have work far more effectively

Thanks for clearing that up Adrian, based on this i will have to re-think my idea of ducts over the wheel arches to direct air into the IC box, if the IC already has good air flow then it is pointless me doing this mod.
What do you think about using scoops over rear wheel arches for air filter boxes? Or is it just best to put some vents over rear wheel arches to reduce pressure in the wheel arch?

Vents over the wheels reduce lift by reducing air pressure caused by the wheels rotating, on my car they are above and behind all of the wheels.

With regards to the filters, the front one is fairly obvious, in the duct somewhere near the fuel pump, but cant really see an alternative for the rear that will provide cool air without modifying the exhaust.

cheers for the advice, i will just put vents over the wheel arches then nad have done with it, that will simplify my project, i think i will just leave the air filters behind the drivers and passengers ears.
Do you know if it is still possible to source the fastback mod from anywhere?
