I haven't actually bought a house yet, but i am likely to be purchasing in a heavily student populated area. My question is, what are the costs or soundproofing at least one room of a small terraced house? (eg. 3.5m x 3.5m room size with hall on one side, and connecting wall on the other). How much space would i be likely to lose as well?

This would be for reducing the sound of TV/audio more than anything else.

Thanks

A list of accoustic insulation products is here :- http://www.sheffins.co.uk/show_prodlist.asp?CatID=...

A friend did exactly what you are considering and lost about 75mm off the internal of the room.

I'm really intrigued how effective it was for that 7.5cm loss?

An easy way of helping sound proof is by putting in a carpet underlay that has a good db reduction
My kid plays music loud in her bedroom and the sound travels down stairs.
drives me mad

Went on the net and found a site

http://www.underlay4u.co.uk

the one i got was tredaire colours red -46db reduction--- it helped --
