Exagon Furtive e-GT Electric Sports Car Unveiled

Oddball name, big performance claims for French prototype

Another day, another electric car. This time it's the turn of the oddly named Exagon Furtive e-GT to take a bow.

Due to hit the world stage at the Paris motor show later this week, the Furtive (we have to suppress a giggle every time we read that, too) is a electric coupe with Aston-esque lines and a pair of Siemens motors that help it to develop 340 horsepower.

Exagon reckons that, as a result, the Furtive can hit 62mph in a Tesla-baiting 3.5secs and will top out at 186mph. And although those figures might sound as if they've been plucked from the box marked 'pure fantasy', Exagon has electric performance car pedigree - it made the eight electric ice racers for the Trophée Andros Electrique.

Exagon also reckons its new concept can muster a range of 400km, which can be doubled to 800km with a 'range-extender' petrol engine that recharges the batteries on the go.

The Furtive could be on sale as early as 2012, apparently. And the price? Exagon isn't saying, but count on the word 'expensive' figuring strongly...

Very nice, but somewhat boastful claims and out in 2012?! I'll believe it when I see it.

Hopefully my scepticism is ill-founded, because I'd love to see cars like this on the road.

I'm sorry, Furtive?

It's actually not a bad adjective for the silent way electric cars sneak about the place but it's not really the most positive brand association.

Depends, they don't state the battery capacity or the power usage at cruise.

An electric motor is just like an engine, in that it doesn't have to draw 253kw all the time. Just as a car doesn't need to make 340bhp all the time.

RANGE OF 400 TO 800 KM? 186 MPH? 0-60 3.5 SECS, GORGEOUS LOOKS? WTF!!! This thing can not be for real!!

somehow this all seems far fetched... or is it 100 % for real... but will it be a £200,000 car??? lets wait and see...

if anything it might be a sign of what to expect in the future

Ha ha, I presume this was a comedy-comment to pre-empt some other plonker saying it!

I think if it had a V6 in it I would be about as interested in it as I am in a Hyundai Coupe.

Half poking fun half serious. I like the looks of it but find it hard to get excited about electric cars partly as my garage has no power sockets so they'd be completely useless to me. Sling a (good) V6 in there and I'd be sorted wink

I can't afford it and it probably won't look like that when it reaches production so doesn't really matter what I think about it.

They probably think it's a synonym for 'stealthy'. Cos stealth stuff, that's cool, innit. Fighter planes and spies and that. hehe

I think petrol stations are probably the least offensive thing involved in driving on the road to be honest.

Sorry but you can't call anything 'The Furtive'. On b3ta.com, meme 'The Furtive' is a cartoon polar bear that turns up in unlikely places and nicks stuff. I'm awaiting their next models 'Domo-kun', 'Teh Quo', 'Brian Blessed' and 'No-Hands The Kitten'.
