Paris Live: See Jaguar's Concept (Re)Unveiled

Our earlier blather...

As we revealed a few weeks back, Jaguar is set to unveil a slinky new sports car concept at this year’s Paris motor show and, being the friendly, giving website that we are, we thought we’d share the car’s launch with you live.

Jaguar is broadcasting the unveil of what is surely going to be one of the star’s of this year’s show on 30th September at 8.45am, (and don’t worry if you can’t make it for the live version – it will be available as an ‘on-demand’ stream once the live show has finished).

We don’t actually know a great deal about the car itself, although our colleagues at Autocar tell us that it’s an XK-sized concept that isn’t actually slated for production but that will signpost the future design direction of Jaguar’s next generation of cars.

Oh, and we’ll eat our entire office stockpile of PH stickers (get ’em now from the PH shop…) if it doesn’t have some green element – probably some sort of hybrid facility.

Whatever it ends up being, though, it’s going to be fascinating, so make sure you come back here to watch it, and click through to the comments thread where we’ve embedded the Jaguar press conference.

It’s as close as you’ll get to actually being there – the only thing we can’t provide for you is the insistent motor show foot ache that sets in almost as soon as you walk into the exhibition halls. Still, you could always walk around your own office or living room for half an hour beforehand, just to give that extra edge of authenticity…

Which could mean:

1: Nothing whatsoever to do with reality.
Case in point:
R-Coupe concept


2: A close (but far sexier) version of an imminent model.
Case in point:
C-XF


3: An imminent model (with a few trim 'tweaks').

If it's not planned for production, who cares? Honestly, does anyone five a flying f**k about clues to Jags new design direction? If you're going to wheel out a sexy motor at a show then bloody well build the thing already.

It's no good my wife giving me clues about all the hot and sticky things she might do to me if I end up just punchin' the munchkin. And it's no good wheeling out a design monkeys wet dream if we can't actually buy the thing.

Cheaper way for Jag to show me their new design direction. Show me a picture.
Way to get me to buy a new smaller sports car. show me one you are going to build.

It is quite fun to see new models... before everyone else (perhaps),
but indeed if they are never-to-be dreamcars, what's the point?

Quite useful however for the competition to see in what direction such or such a make is going!

I don't know what it is about car designers which means that they feel compelled to ruin what is otherwise a gorgeous shape by adding in some trendy really hard edged tweaks.
In this case the front quarters - and the awful treatment of the rear of the front wings - and the severe square section on the doors.
Without these unnecessary additions this would have been a truly stunning shape.

Or am I just getting old and grumpy?

Maybe not old and grumpy, just too quick to judge. That picture is an autocar rendering which almost certainly means it is entirely made up and will have virtually no resemblance to the car.

Makes send to preview a car now to show the direction. They will be making a new small e/f type and making the xk bigger by all accounts, so this should allow us to extrapolate what they might look like without them having to reveal the new cars before they have each had sufficient time and process put to them.

I am losing it with Jaguar....here we go again with another concept that looks great ..but again will never see the real thing.

Hang on, they sent the CX-F to a show a few years ago to make sure everyone was happy with their design direction, and then made the XJ look like it.

Now they're sending this new thing to a show to tell you where they're going. If the reaction is "oh christ no" something would be done.

The fact is everyone said "Oh christ yes" to the CX-F and they stopped making "classic-looking" jags (X350 XJ) as a result?

It's easier to make a model and show everyone than it is to lose millions on a whole car line that took everyone by surprise.

no buts....if they are not going to make it, all a bit pointless really. Who will be the first to step up and make a real Elise competitor? The climate is moving more and more towards light weight / small egines, yet we keep seeing 4 or 5 litre concepts...An Elise rival would be of interest, not this 2 tonne monstrosity.

that and the fact that they already have a car in that segment or maybe just below it depending on your idea of HUGE. A smaller car which all the press and public seem to be asking them for is perhaps a better concept I agree.
