I think the time pressure is what does most of them in for the first challenge.
10 minutes to be given and ingredient and told knock something up is not very long at all for the first challenge.
Didn't like Rouxs sous chef very much, she seemed like a complete b
h. He himself on the other hand came across as a decent enough sort of chap.

Interesting the point made about the sous chef, she does seem to have a bit of an attitude.
Roux, on the other hand, is a pleasure to see working the kitchen. He's bloody meticulous and always seems so calm. I guess you don't get 2 michelin stars by lacking self confidence and a small amount of skill...

Yes. And it was actually refreshing to see Roux doing some cooking - a reminder that you have to be pretty damned good at it yourself, before you can critique everyone else. 
He makes the programme. (Wallace does his best to destroy it.)
