Hi All,

We've got a track day at blyton park in a few weeks time, but ive no idea what the track layout will be or even if its tarmac'd yet. Has anyone had any experience of the track recently? It looks like it could be a comparable size to Mallory, but i'm less keen if its still a track laid out in tyres with tyre chicanes to slow you down on straights.

Does anyone know the construction plan for the venue? Does it have much in the way of facilities, like a cafe or anything?

Thanks in advance!

Look on the Mazda on Track website - they've been heavily involved in Blyton recently and have run a couple of inaugral events there.

My Dad was racing there at the weekend and said that no work had been carried out so far...

Its an old rough as f*ck airfield lol. Used for Rallycross mainly - I live around the corner from it.

I'd be surprised if a lowered car makes it down the access road in one piece lol.

yeah, ive tried the MoT website, and also blytonpark.co.uk - from what i understand the plan is to make a fully fledged circuit, but just not sure how long it will take.

Might email the owner to try and find more details.

There's a few on here who've been and they'll hopefully find their way to this thread. 2Skiddy seems to know more than most.

When is the trackday? I could be interested in doing it, or at the very least coming down to watch.

Cheers, Greg.

I was thinking about going, but looks like I'll not make it now. Found this though:

Looks fair enough to say they hadn't done any work, not sure if it's still the same now. Definitely worth keeping an eye on though, it'd be nice to have a mini Cadwell half an hour's drive away!

Actually, if this became a mini Cadwell, and Cadwell's a mini Nurburgring, then what's the implication there?

Lincolnshire's own 'Nano-Nurburgring'? Catchy, I reckon biggrin

Thanks for the info brillomaster. Very tempting.

Matt, they're going to have to do a bit of earth moving to be something like Cadwell..

They'd be as well not to bother, imagine the subsidence yikes Plus, I wouldn't even want to imagine how much that amount of landscaping would cost. I think people I've spoken to just draw comparisons because it's not a million miles away, to be honest.

I did a session there at the recently mazfest.

Yes its a bit bumpy in places, but its not as bad as some people make out imo. There was one pothole on the exit of the tight hairpin which when hit mid oversteer wasn't pleasant, however i would be very suprised if that hasnt been filled in.

Theres also a bit of a dip/bump before one of the left handers (the one infront of the spectator bank) which caused alot of cars to get a bounce on round the corner. The same corner also has a very poor runout into a field. I made a concious effort to go steady round here as didint fancy spinning into the plowed/muddy field. However the rest of the track was great. Few 2nd gear corners making it great fun in the 5.

This pic gives you an idea of the surface in places.

From my experience at Elvington, jJvelin seem like a very well organised and safety concious TDO and i'm sure they wouldnt run a TD there if they thought the circuit wasnt up to standards.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Blyton progress over the next few years.

I did a track day with the Mazda On Track crew a couple of months ago. Very well organised BTW and a friendly bunch. Look forward to doing another with them.
I usually use Javelin who know what they`re doing and I think it will be a first there for them.
The track itself has changed little from Rallydrive days, apart from running in the opposite direction, with fewer tyres wich have been replaced with plastic barriers. The down side to this IMO is the flow is not as good as clockwise and too many chicanes have been put in on the far side of the track. These can be altered and it would be interesting to see what layout Javelin intend to use. The track is not a rough as it used to be as the holes have been filled......at last!
It is work in progress, and I can`t wait to have a proper track up there. Mr Usher is spending plenty, so it seems, on the infrastructure, which is much needed. I think ATM the smaller/nimbler cars are more suited to the track rather than the larger beasts.

Bump, re-opening May 10th. Looks interesting, I'm sure prices will jump significantly but they seemed to have spent a fair amount upgrading the track as suggested previously.

crikey they've been busy! I was there last month and it was still the same old beat up airfield! Looks great now!

I noticed the other day that javelin now have a few dates on there. Might give it a try.

Am I right in saying it's a left-hand circuit? That's rare!

Called up at Blyton last week, and Mr Usher kindly showed me round. There is a lovely fresh tarmac track ready to have some serious skidmarks laid on it. Well you can`t be too skiddy, can you? There is a new cabin, proper toilets, etc, so he has really gone to town. Can`t wait to give this new anticlockwise layout a try.

I look forward to seeing your car there again, 2skiddy. I'll hopefully be there for one of the days in May, although possibly only spectating again.
