Paris Live: The Future Of Lotus Starts Here

Unless you've been living quietly in a cave (and without your iPhone or Blackberry) for the past few months, you'll know that Lotus is set to unveil something quite big - i.e. its entire future - at this year's Paris show.

We already know that there's going to be a new Lotus Elite, but as for what else, well, we'll just have to wait and see.

Fortunately, Lotus is, like Jaguar, broadcasting its motor show press conference live, and you'll be able to catch it at 3.45pm on 30th September.

Unfortunately, owing to the vagaries of the internetweb, we can't embed the Lotus press conference on PH, but you will be able to watch it on Lotus's own website.

Come on boys, show us the Esprit, it has been too long with too many dissapointments.

Auto express (ahem) has a story about a small city car Lotus using the range extender engine. Might be interesting to see since that's quite a clever bit of kit. On the other hand that came from auto express so it was probably made up.

I am so glad they didn't do any teaser shots and stuck with a proper launch.

Lambo did the teaser thing (rather than blow people away which they are more than capable of doing) and seem to have been rumbled by a release of a single, low quality image.

As annoying as Lotus might have been with their press releases, it will all be a distant memory if they deliver something remarkable on their stand. Good luck to them.

My money is on a New Esprit with an LFA engine in it. Thus enabling Toyota to recoup a bit more cash from the investment in developing the engine.

Well, it's 35 years since an all-new Esprit was launched so more than a tad overdue and facing a market already occupied by some serious players. Everything previously with the name Esprit was just development of the original model and it took Lotus 30 years to sell a modest 10,000 cars. It's not easy to make ends meet if you're only selling one car a day worldwide.

Be interested to see what the masters of the Special Edition come up with on Friday.

Nope, especially not if you car is a result of your needs, space, available funds etc. I maintain though that it does have a bearing on your experience and basis to form an opinion though, without invalidating it.

For example, I have a opinion on the Pagani Zonda. It is less informed though than the opinion of someone who might actually be able to buy one and has experience in similar machinery. I can only speculate about the Pagani and the wants and desires of it's target customer base. Jay Leno or Jay Kay would have a more informed opinion on both though than a lowly scrubber like me.

They didn't have an incoming investment of $770 million dollars then though. You're right though, it will have to be good and I'll be crushed if it isn't. Even if it's the best car ever though, expect a shower of bile and smuggery on here, par for the course.
