A question for the great and good. If you only had the budget above but needed a reliable estate capable of taking two and a half dogs what would you buy?

Serious question so any help would be brill. beer

For me I'd either go for an Alfa 156 Sportswagen http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2062423.htm

or the most obvious choise for me, a V70 http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1940659.htm

If only Noble did an estate version of the old M400 for a mere £1500 I'd have one wink

Can only afford an estate large enough for 2.5 dogs so have two springers and a muttly biggrin

I would look around for a cheap pre facelift legnum vr-4, the autos were 260bhp with 4wd etc. A quick job of fitting a mbc, gauge, colder plugs and turning up the boost a bit would see it at 280 or thereabouts. Fuel on the other hand is a barsteward tongue out

Volvo I reckon.

Did some scouting around the 156 estate and the comments were "you buy this car because you want an Alfa, not to be reliable" or something to that effect.

If anyone wants to post some Diesels that would be useful for me.

Mondeo tdci estate.
Huge inside, really nice to drive, reliable and economical as well, I used to average 40mpg around town and could easily get it up into the 50s on a motorway journey. Mine was a 130 and I woudl recommend it but not sure if you could get a good one for your budget
