Just started unpacking the non-essentials boxes (4 years after buying the place, not bad eh :P )

First thing I come across was my photo pack of old cars... so instead of unpacking, I sat and reminisced. It's been my intention for the last 18 years to "buy back" my Notchback. Unfortunately it would appear to not be insured, I'm told :P Any other ways of tracing it?

YBW 978 was the plate.

Well, how bazaar, happened to do a search for the reg of my old car, and here we are, yes I owned YBW 978 around that time, I guess maybe I bought it from you? Anyway yes it was a great car, though hard to get parts for and I did lots of engine in-outs and had to change the gearbox, as the diff seized, and I had a rear drum strip its splines which needed a flat-bed home on near years day at 3 AM.. I had it for about 2 years I think, it developed some serious floor pan rust issues, and I patched them up and sold it on, I imagine it was broken up frown A shame, but it was loved. As you say I regret selling it now and wished I'd had the money at the time to get it restored. I think it would likely have been easier to get parts now too.

I remember it had a sticker on the back window saying

"Old Volkswagens never die, they just get lower"

However at the time I had a rough but now beautiful 67 split camper that I have restored. Though my other regret was that I looked at a 66 23 window at the time and this was already restored and for sale for £2500 be worth 25000 now frown..

My split had a comedy comment written on the underside, saying "if only everything in life was as reliable as a volkswagen"... makes me laugh even now when I an under there fixing something..

Will post a picture when I find one, I am sure I have some someplace.

LOL fantastic - thanks so much for registering and bringing me a bit more up to date on it! Ahh yes, the sticker was somewhat poignant on that car, maybe went a tad OTT with the lowering...

Sad to hear the floorpan started to suffer, that car was always so remarkably solid. May well have got broken up I guess... I may just have to keep the hunt up for it though!
