As some of you may have seen in my previous topics I am off travelling for quite some time shortly.

I currently have an account with Nationwide (building society), I am looking to switch bank to someone who will offer me more whilst I am abroad.

Does anyone have any good experiences with specific companies? Ones that I should steer clear of?

TIA

I thought Nationwide were one of the best for international withdrawals. Anyway, have a look at moneysavingexpert.com

They have, but apparently still one of the better rates.

HSBC might be a decent bet though?

I still use Nationwide. They stopped free withdrawls (except in the EU) but they still offer a good exchange rate and their fees are lower than any other UK high street bank I found.

I also used an STA Travel Mastercard but only because I got it free! The advantage being you can use it anywhere with a Mastercard symbol rather than having to spend in cash everywhere. I found it difficult to transfer money off it though without large fees and ATM withdrawls are more expensive than with Nationwide. I haven't used it myself, but the Canton FX Card is a similar idea, but better value apparently. Comes recommended by friends.
