Paris: Renault DeZir Concept

Slick electric concept hints at future design direction

Renault's keenness on 'leccy cars and modern design has once again been proven with the introduction of the slinky DeZir concept.

The DeZir has been designed to show off Renault's commitment to 'emotional' styling and to showcase what future Renaults will look like - probably in 2050 from the looks of things. But it definitely isn't a hint at what a new Alpine would look like.

The project was led by design boss Laurens van den Acker and begins a series of concepts marking out Renault Design's vision for the future. In typical automotive designer style the DeZir's design language has taken inspiration from Renault's new signature: 'Drive the Change'.

Renault also claims it looks at the firm's styling roots (don't remember the 5 looking much like this) and explores the idea of the 'life cycle'. This is where the design-speak gets a little much...

Apparently the DeZir's design "builds on the bonds that are gradually forged between the brand and its customers at watershed moments of their lives, such as when they fall in love, begin to explore the world, start a family, begin work, take time out to play and gain wisdom."

We'll stick with "It looks good", thanks.

Just looked closer at the 'molten' interior, that's ghastly vomit

Never thought a car of this category would look boring and yet it's all such a cliche now.

I still can't get used to these fashionable 'side blades' that are appearing on so many sports models from diferent manufacturers. To me thay look silly.

Renault produce attractive and reliable car shocker yikes

Oh no hang on, it's just a future concept for the entire company... shoot

Perhaps they should invest a little more time and money in better quality components for their existing range of bland euro sheds!

By the way: Has anyone seen the Renault 'WIND'? - Bloody thing looks like a clio thats been driven very fast underneath a very low lorry and by happy coincidence managed to crash into wilcos current window display of 'strap on' plastic bodywork.

There may of course be a slight hint of bitterness to this post

Lose the blade and make both doors open from the back and it's a winner.
