I currently have sat on my wrist a 1997 ss Rolex Datejust with a white face, and roman numerals on the dial. I like it's clean simplicity. (16200model, oyster bracelet).

I can't get out of my head a beautiful Omega Moonwatch (3750.50.00) I've seen on Watchfinder (other websites are available). Second hand, but I don't mind that, and I might be able to walk away from the deal with a couple of hundred quid in my back pocket too!

Am I mad? Is the Speedmaster easy to live with/prone to any issues? Will it hold it's value?

Come on you educated and opinionated lot, what would you do?

I'm sure you can get Rolexes with all that written on the dial.

Thanks. I do like the Speedmaster's design. I think it looks like a good bit of kit. As I say, I keep being drawn to it but don't want to regret getting shot of the roller.

Anyone got one as a daily?

One thing that may be relevant: it's a manual wind in "Moon" format... and no date.

I just traded my Moonwatch with a dealer here in NL.

I really wanted a Omega Speedmaster Pro and thought that wearing it daily I could live without the date.
I wore it twice and just missed the date. Lost about GBP400 on the trade - so not as bad as it could have been, but still - be sure before you part with your cash.

It's the first 'nice' watch I ever wanted, now I'm in a position to get one I keep putting it off as I don't know how much I'd actually wear it.

Any scratches in the crystal can be sorted with a bit of polywatch, and I'd cope with hand winding it. I'm not sure how I'd get on without a date though. It's also put me off getting another classic watch without a date - the 14060. I think they'd just end up in my watch box gathering dust.

I'm sure I'll end up owning a Moonwatch and a 14060 eventually, but there are other watches higher up on my list (and they all have the date).

Actually, forget all that about the date. It's the Moonwatch, it's associated with the greatest technological achievement in history! Just get one!

I couldn't live without the date, didn't fancy polishing out scratches or winding everyday. So I bought a Speedmaster co-axial automatic which has sapphire crystal (and a window on the back), but without the historical cachet. Went from a Seamaster pro so quite a simple design. I absolutely love the Speedie and it's just fine as a daily wearer, I'm never worried about knocking it.
But as said before, it's a large departure from the style of your Rolex. Get down to the shops and try one out. I can't comment on depreciation as I don't intend on ever selling it!
