So i've got a new (to me) car that is infact 12 years old. It is also renowned for suffering from tin worm. I really like it, and want to look after it as best I can, which means trying to prevent the enevitable return of iron oxide. It's had its arches treated, but I can already see it coming back very slightly. Not visible unless your searching yet though, but who knows whats under the paint.

So my question to you, apart from regular cleaning to get the salt off, is there anything I can do to try and stop this process as much as possible. Any wondeful products/methods people know? (apart from close my eyes and pretend its not there). I've nto had a car that suffers from this before so am unsure how to go about it.

Cheers!

Once a certain area starts, there's no real way to completely stop it, other than to cut out the old steel and weld in some new, good quality steel.

Then of course, several coates of primer/undercoat/topcoat/lacquer and treating the car to a full underseal including wheel arches.

I think Waxoyl is supposed to be pretty decent.

In the long run I will be doing this, when it gets unpleasent to look at and becomes noticable and more importantly when I have some spare cash. Aparantly 206 arches are the same curve, and they're galvanized so i'll be keeping my eye out for some of those.

This is they more short-term prevention/slowing method i'm looking for, thanks. Just to try and slow it down as much as possible.

Thanks

Hi.
Sounds like you have yourself a Puma, correct me if I am wrong. If it is the rust on these comes from the inside out.

You're correct.

Lol, yeah I figured this might be the case (bit of bubbling going on). I thought maybe treating the surface might help slow it down? Am I wrong? I know long term its not a solution, but like I mentioned previoslu, long term plans are in place.

Yes you are right there, but remember the front offside 206 arch fits the rear nearside of the Puma and vice versa for the other side. I believe you can buy replacements from germany but have no idea about cost. There is a good article on the pumapeople wiki.
