One of the greats of scottish rallying, Jimmy Girvan, dies at the weekend and what do we get showing respect? a total of 8 replies, absoloutely abysmal.
Seems all the supposed motorsport/petrolheads are more interested in finding Vietnamese restaurants or finding someone to fix a windscreen chip or entering a Friday Quiz.
Where have all the motorsport fans, who used to frequent this forum gone?
Probably sick of the inane crap that fills what once was a worthwhile forum.
Rant over.

So you decided to come on, not post your respects then moan that others didnt. How terribly constructive of you.Seems all the supposed motorsport/petrolheads are more interested in finding Vietnamese restaurants or finding someone to fix a windscreen chip or entering a Friday Quiz.

As for the petrol heads comments, you been on any runs lately? Posted about any race meetings? Eh, that'll be a no then.
Thanks for raising the forum to a record high, you tit

Also, with 189 posts in 75 months you've barely contributed any content to the forum at all anyway. Why spend 6 and a bit years essentially lurking then b
h about a lack of posting? Im sorry but you've really pissed me off, the Scotland forum is now a community. It wasnt back in the day, it was a backwater, theres now edinlushes, glasgow meets and several runs that didnt exist 6 years ago. Plus, just because we didnt post in a thread in the Scotland forum doesnt mean it went unnoticed.
So in summation, if you dont like it feel free to do one.

How do you know that Jimmy Girvan has not been or will not be discussed at one of the many meets between the many active members on this very active and worthwhile forum and so deemed it not necessary to say what we thought about this subject again to the same people from the same forum again. Seems all the supposed motorsport/petrolheads are more interested in finding Vietnamese restaurants or finding someone to fix a windscreen chip or entering a Friday Quiz.

When you actually partake properly in what happens on this forum then you can start to call us names but until then please go and sit hide back under whatever small bridge you came from.

Like Dyce Cooper I actually knew the man and my respects went personally.
I didn't and while I was saddened to hear of his death I didn't post anything just like I don't leave bunches of flowers at fatal RTA sites.albundy89 said:
I am neither a tit nor a hyprotical arse, just expected a bit more.
First impressions are not good, but stick around...You claim not to be a hypocrite, but come on and lambast the members on here for not posting in a thread THAT YOU HAVEN'T POSTED IN EITHER.
Yes, you say you paid your respects personally, how do you know other folk have not done the same?
You then go on to describe the content in here as inane drivel. That content is the result of a vibrant community of people with the same interests, sharing social events and experiences.
Who the hell are you to come in here (albeit very infrequently) and slag all that off? Just because it doesn't serve any purpose for you doesn't make it inane - the content of this forum is a direct result of the people who partake.
I find your accusatory tone offensive and if that is all you came in here to contribute, i'd rather you stayed away in future.

To add a voice of reason, I also took offence to your post but out of respect to Mr Girvan I didn't want to react by demeaning your good intent towards an unfortunate situation that did really warrant respect To be shown.
Like many others on here I would guess, not following rallying or possibly to young to know him may be guilty of a blasé attitude towards media content. We should in fact be more mindfull that any passing in scottish motorsport will ultimately be a fellow petrolhead and worthy of a respectful nod in that direction.
I for one upon thinking about the above question myself for not paying more attention to the subject.
Finaly, I would invite you to make a positive out of all this and instead of thinking of us all talking inane drivel, embrace this forum is not rallyheads but pistonheads come along to a meet, meet some of the nicest fellow petrolheads around and join in some of the future banter.
Its not rallyheads is

Yeh, I think Fluff has the right approach.
Listen mate, let's move on from this, and why not try and attend an event soon so you can see what a sound bunch of guys we have on here (& Petrolheads to boot!).
Anyhoo, how can I fall out with someone with that username? Mmmm Kelly Bundy....

i think the scotland scene is brilliant. aberdeen runs have regular turn outs of 20+ cars and a very good mix. been on a few inverness runs great people good laugh and well organised. i plan on heading down to meet the edinburgh and glasgow folk for their runs im sure il be welcomed. tbh i had never heard of jimmy girvan i dont take a huge interest in rallying despite knowing of a few drivers, alistair tough and barry clark. though i did hear of it on the news. but im keen on all motorsport and its not that rare an occurance for someone to die in a motorsport event. sure i think about it and its sad, but how many get to go out doing the thing we love?
I'm fairly new to p/heads by some standards, but find it one of the best and active forums. You have a good core of regular posters, along with all the events arranged. A lot of people spend a lot of time organising stuff....ask PaulQV/AndrewMG, Si, Fluff, Miss H/Hoon, Flip, Aberdeen lot to name a few.
Some of the posts like Ally's ring trip must take hrs to post up. I don't think it matters if you are the top poster or only add a few contributions now and again, we are all interested in CARS.
I've met some cracken people because of the effort of forum members arranging stuff. There is also a few i haven't personally met, but feel i know them fairly well already.
I read the original thread and the link to the artical, but didn't post anything up. It's always a sad day when a life is taken early and i'm sure most of us have been through this on a personal basis.
You obviosly knew the driver well enough to post up your anger, but because we didn't all reply, it doesn't mean that we didn't spare a few minutes of thought for him and his family.
You do have a point about Barry's Friday afternoon's quizz though...i still have only got about one right!!!
Get involved more, i think you will like the current bunch of guys and gals.
We have a Christmas do on, what a better way to meet everyone?? You will feel welcomed and it will be a great night.

I make a point of not participating in threads about the demise of people I don't know - that kind of 'Princess Diana' mentality is a crock of s
t IMHO.
Of course it's sad that somebody died - rally driver or not - but if I offered my condolences online to everyone who dies then I'd get nothing done.
My Mum died a few weeks ago and you never got in touch with me to offer your condolences, probably because you don't know me or her. See where I'm going with this yet?
Bernard Hunter died a few weeks back and I don't recall reading about that on here. He kept plenty cars on the road back in the day via his scrap yard and was a keen petrolhead and racer too. I was sad to hear about his untimely demise but - strangely enough - I wasn't pissed off that there was no wailing and gnashing on PH. Maybe it's me...
