Whats the best buy out of these two for the following:

3yrs, 60,000 miles. 60 mile daily commute.
Reliability, economy together with performance, luxury and comfort are key.
Long motorway journeys every other week.

Dec 2005 BMW 530d M Sport manual - 75k
June 2007 BMW 525d SE manual - 65k Facelifted and a few more toys.

Both same price, both absolutely mint, FBMWSH etc, both 12k.

Guess the trade off is a newer cars with a better ride, few more toys and less miles for a car thats nicer looking and quicker.

What would you go for?

525 SE, no question. Newer, more toys, fewer miles. Plus after a month or two of 60 miles a day in the Sport and you'll wish you'd got the one with the soft ride...

525 se

As mentioned, doing 20k a year will probably feel better with the softer suspension and tbh the 5 series handles fairly well anyway. Additionally the 525 goes well enough and slightly better economy wouldn't be a bad thing given your mileage.

I hate to put in a +1 but this, pretty much. Better economy (because of the facelift, not the lower power engine), probably lower maintenance costs due to age, etc. Slightly down on power (200ish vs 230ish bhp) but still a wafty six.
