Don't waste your money on it. Speaking from genuine, proper experience, Saxos are tin cans that shouldn't be lusted after.
They're quite good fun, but the pedal box is so, so cramped, the driving position is f
king awful, the engines aren't that economical and they're extremely flimsy.
Sorry but that's setting your sights pretty low. Won't the insurance be a sod? Pretty sure about a million of these would get written off each week.

ks!!!
The car in question is a white Citroen Saxo VTS that has just come up on the classifieds..
Does anyone know if these engines are good for 100k+?
Help, i could cry!
Danny
If the engine is looked after it will happily do much more than 100K.110,000 on a french 1.6 engine can't be good

Other things to check on them is that the gearbox is good, these cars do get abused and if some ham fisted hooligan has been slamming the gears in the 'box won't last too long.
Rear suspension is another area that can wear quite badly too so needs checking properly.
As has already been said, they are flimsy cars which aren't built the best, but that's also why they're good fun, so if it's priced well and is in good condition with service history go for it.

It's a morbid wondering I always have driving the Escort
OP, 110,000 miles on a French 1.6 depends entirely if they're 110,000 looked after miles or 110,000 miles at 110 miles an hour. Fwiw regarding 'French oh noes' the gf's mum has a 1.6 Megane that's coming up 140,000, and it hasn't been the best serviced of things. From what I can make out, it's other things such as electrics that give out hopelessly, although don't wish to be held to that

If it is that one I think you can do better for the money tbh. Also worth bearing mind that lowering any more than 40mm compromises the handling.
Might be worth asking around on www.saxperience.com to see what you can find out about it, it may be on there.

Would safety stop you buying a car you've lusted over for a long time?My daughters getting to that 'age' now and I'm finding myself perusing through the classifieds for cheap snotters.
Saxos and the like do initially seem like reasonable buys, but when you look at some ENCAP results it quickly makes you realise that cheap isn't the only criteria for buying cars.
