Real F1 cars?

Has anyone else seen those F1 cars that you can drive at places like Paul Ricard? There's a Prost and a Benetton and there might be more. They just don't look right to me, more like a re-bodied F3000 car.

Everything that I can find says that they are F1 cars but....

Does anyone know any different?

Just watchin a video on youtube with a guy called Jack Atley driving at Paul Ricard. He drove a Prost(F3000?) which broke down(so could be a Prost!) and now he's driving an AGS which,to me, looks nothing like an F1 car.

Not meant to sound sarcastic, but you do realise that the Prost and AGS cars are quite a few years old now, and hence bear no resemblance to current F1 machinery.

And also that F3000 / GP2 cars quite often followed the current look and trend of F1 cars, rather than the other way round.

I think Prost last ran an F1 car in 2001, and AGS would have last been raced in the early '90s.

If you watch the video and look at the AGS, it looks like no AGS that I can remember. I know that they don't look like the cars of today but these cars look a bit small compared to cars I remember.

The nearest car is a Prost AP02 from 1999.
The middle car is a AGS SH02 from 2003 - this i know nothing about.
Furthest car is an Arrows A20 from 1999 (perhaps with a non-standard nose)

And all running inters or control tyres on a hot summer day?

Or are those more of a "hard general purpose" tyre for cars like these - hard / slippery - let clients feel the car move about more?

For race schools i expect it's much easier to run without it. Very few people would actually fit in an F1 car with it in place..

More on the AGS cars:

Though I'd rather drive one at Ricard TBH

And I'd perefer to drive the 905 than any of the F1 cars

Nice one for the info on the AGS Dan.

If you look at the picture I put up and the one Tony did, look at the difference in where the drivers helmet is in relation to the airbox. If you look at an F3000 car from say 1998/99 they seem to be higher up in the cockpit, where as from the the same period, in F1, they sat lower.

Also look at the sidepod on Tony's picture at the top where there's a radius and on mine where it's a sharp angle. Its the suspension that gets me, the F1 car has aerodynamic wishbones and the other has normal wishbones.

does it matter if its an f3000 car or an F1? i appreciate that there is a certain kudos to some who can say they have driven an F1 car but bimbling around a circuit miles off the pace isnt high in the bragging rights stakes...
