Career Change after a decade or so

I'm just having some thoughts about what I do, and what I want to be doing in another 10 or 20 years. I was just wondering if there was anyone who changed their career after around 10 years in the same career, so looking at around 30s or so.

I've been working in HR all my life in major corporate organisations and I have an HR degree. A number of changes at work and the start of a coaching programme have led me to consider widening my scope but there is of course an element of fear about switching.

What I wanted to see is whether anyone else has gone through a similar exercise and if so what were the routes you considered, any pitfalls to be avoided etc?

PS: Could this be a mid-life crisis?

If you've got the option of a sideways into the business, then go for it. Presume you can always slip back to the darkside?
