Things to do for Hogmany?
Discussion
Looking for some idea's folks. I am fed up of having a mundane, boring Hogmany.
I was looking at maybe going to a lodge/log cabin for a few nights over the New Year period. Anybody have any recommendations for any that will still be available and aren't stupidly expensive? Obviously I know you will pay a premium at that time of year. Ideally sleeping up 4-6 people.
What else is there to do in Scotland? Anywhere out of the country worth visiting that won't cost an arm and a leg?
I'm just looking for some idea's and fellow PH'er experiences from what they have done over the years at Hogmany. What are you doing this Hogmany?
Cheers,
Jamie

I've not spent Hogmanay in Edinburgh for more than 20 years, I always go away with friends.
We've always stayed in Scotland and have rented everything from really dodgy cabins to very plush country houses.
We still haven't got this year arranged and we're looking at a group around the same size as you this year.
You might be surprised at the prices and availability, just keep searching. This time of year is not too bad because deposits on bookings become due and those that don't get paid mean property returning to the market (does that make sense?).
Work out whats important to your group - how far are people prepared to drive?, do you need to be near mountains for climbing/biking?, do you want to be on your own or in a chalet park or village?, will you make your own entertainment or do you need to be near pubs etc?
Do it. It's great fun in my experience, even the crap places were a laugh.

Hi we did Glen Clova hotel for a xmas one year. It is in the middle of nowhere but still very nice and a great drive up to the hotel. They also have cabins with your own hot tub. I can’t remember the price but I did think at the time it was not to bad for 6 people going. The hotel part has a bar and restaurant too.

Just to let you know I have nothing to do with them, just had a good stay.
Hope this was helpful.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Those Clova lodges look very nice indeed, thanks for the heads up.
I have mainly been looking at the Cairngorm area as it would be good to get in some ski'ing whilst away but this is essential. I would really like somewhere with a hot tub though. At the end of the day it's just going to be a big pissup with my brother and our better halves so aslong as there is a fridge and somewhere soft for me and him to sleep then that's all that matters. I'm not sure the ladies will agree with that sentiment though
