Moron in a 4x4

I've just been out to pick up my lunch and I'm sure most of you will be aware that it's hammering down out there. I'm in Plymouth: Devon and Cornwall are getting the worst of it weather wise at the moment.

Well, I leave the office and the nearest Tesco with a fuel station is 3 miles up the A38 which is 3 lanes where I join it, but soon narrows to two. As I pull out there is a Royal Mail lorry in L1, I join about 5 seconds behind it. A white Ford Focus passes me and there's nothing behind it in L2. Further back in L3 is a Black Nissan L200 twin cab doing the same speed as me. I check my blind spot, 4x4 is not coming over to L2, so I indicate out and keeping about 4 seconds behind the Focus, I start to pass the Lorry.

By the time I'm mid-way up the side of the lorry, L3 is ending, black Nissan is still keeping station 3-4 seconds behind me in L3. As I glance in the mirror, the Nissan floors it and starts gaining fast, L3 ends imminently and I think, where is he going to go? That's right, the tt behind the wheel of the Nissan decides to match my speed (with almost an emergency stop) next to me, then with one flash of the indicator starts coming across with a move that would be foolhardy in the dry let alone in weather that makes monsoon season seem tame! Thankfully I had eased off/was braking to make space in front of me to let him in as with L3 ending I knew he was going to be coming in, so my foot was already on the brake pedal
and I was able to get my nose just behind his tail before he took the space where my car had been, but fk me, he ain't done yet. He then floors it again and starts tailgating the Focus, who soon gets out of the way, then straight on to the next one and the next.

When I got off the A38, he was still tailgating cars in the distance with a very large empty stretch of road behind him. Everybody he'd passed backed right off, I'm guessing in a display of: do not want.

So, to the twunt in the Nissan if you are a member here, I hope you feel really proud of yourself. You're a tt of the highest order and with an unloaded pickup, if I hadn't been aware of your approach and got out of the way early, it would have been you getting the worst of that situation as you went into the side of a Royal Mail lorry! My engine's a lot heavier then your back end! Oh, and tailgating in heavy rain and with pretty much zero visibility makes you a dangerous fkwit. I hope you have a serious moment one day without hurting anyone else just to prove to you that driving a larger vehicle doesn't make you invincible and certainly doesn't mean you own the road! What was so sudden and so important that meant you had to increase your speed from the 55-60 everybody else felt was appropriate in that weather to 70-80? Regardless, just be glad I saw you early and made room for you, because if not, I'd have been telling a judge what a tt you are!

Do you think the driver(s) in question will read it?

Do you think anyone can relate to the story from the lengthy post describing the scene you've created?

Someone cut me up on a roundabout this morning. If I hadn't emergency-stopped I'd be dead. But I don't think that posting up on PH will change that....

So you pulled out into a space between a lorry and a 4x4 just as a road narrowed from 3 lanes to 2 and then when the 4x4 put his foot down to get through the gap, realised he couldn't make it and sensibly braked, you slowed down with him?

Um, wasn't going to say it, but the PH sticker on the tailgate was the reason I put it here.

I didn't get the reg-plate as I dropped right back, the spray and distance I was behind him meant it was pretty unreadable.

Lane 2 was empty and he wasn't just behind me thanks. Oh, and as for slowing down with him...he matched my speed, I only massively slowed when he came across.

The HC states and I papraphrase, if being overtaken maintain a steady speed or slow down to assist the overtaker. He was coming through at a rate of knots and I was attempting to assist him. How on earth am I supposed to know that he is then going to slam on the brakes instead of going past into the space I was making for him?

He hadn't run out of room, there were perhaps another 50 yards of 1 lane wide enough for two cars and with his closing speed, the safest and most convenient action was to make space in front for him.

It's really cathartic having a rant, whether or not anyone reads it. It will make the OP a calmer and happier person and thereby lead to a longer and more fruitful life for him. I am therefore mystified by your mystification!

Tux, he was a good 3-4 seconds behind me and matching my speed when I pulled out 200 ish yards before the lanes merged. Are you honestly trying to say I did wrong? Or just arguing for the sake of it? The traffic was crawling past the lorry due to the weather meaning speed differential was low.
