Lucas SNB802. Where are You?!

Cant find one of these as described in an earlier thread. No where seems to have any!

I find TVR dealers are generally reasonable about parts costs, especially if they are the type where equivalents are available.

If you don't have one locally, the trade parts stockists that you are more likely to find on trading estates that also have retail sales desks should have no problem find the Lucas part or equivalent for you. Patchway Autoparts in Bristol is about the size of a newsagents shop, but I got one from there for 14 quid.

Have you tried a local Ford Dealer as I think its from the Fords parts bin. Is the Air Temp sensor??

Got mine from a local motor factors in High Wycombe by the name of All Parts. It is a standard Lucas part.

S27, that's actually the wrong part. I believe the pic shows a temp sensor for the temp' guage. The SNB802 is the sensor that sends temp reading directly to the ECU. It has a two pin connector in the top.

...I may be wrong I often am...

You are corect, it is not the same part. Mind you, maybe this is the correct part for some model Chimaeras and SNB802 is correct for others. Otherwise, I guess it is for the temp guage and not the ECU.

The Pic is for the Temp Sensor going to the Gauge and the gauge only!

The SNB802 temp sensor only sens info to the ECU. It has a 2 pin plastic plug on the top of it.

I got a new SNB802 from Steve @ Precision the other day, fitted it to the car, wow what a difference!

Much reduced chugging, much cleaner pick up, i've now lost a couple of flat spots in the rev range and the car's crackling on the overrun again.



Bearing in mind i had just replaced plugs, rotor, cap, leads, oil, filter and cleaned the air filter, all of which had little effect...

Has anyone taken any pics of where this item is located?? I have bought the sensor (Intermotor part no 55400) but there seems to be an abundance of possible culprits under the bonnet & the bible doesn't have any pics.

If anyone can help i'd appreciate it as you can tell i'm no technical expert!! although just managed to clean stepper motor so feeling pleased with myself.

Try page 89 in the 2nd edition. In the section on the temperature sensor. Piccie of how to remove using a socket...

You do have the second edition?

Thanks found it in the bible now just got to get the b***ard out! 19mm deep socket is right size but won't go over plastic connector (tried it on new one)so time to struggle with a spanner! Must be cos i've got ABS that makes it more difficult?

It stops the water coming out of the hole it is in. It is a throwback to the Land Rover installation that uses it as a temp sensor. The sensor is not the same resistence curve as that used by TVR for the temp guage.

To remove mine i used a wheel brace that fits the Chimaera wheel nuts-perfect fit and made the whole job easy

I take it you need to drain the coolant from the Swirl Pot to change out the temp sensor?

If you read the bible it states that the coolant should stay put once the sensor is out as long as the swirl pot cap/radiator bleed screw are firmly in/on.
