Hi,

We need a new dishwasher and we're after some advice please.

We're looking at the following:

Bosch Exxcell SMS50E12GB at £389
Bosch SMS63E12GB at £419
Bosch Logixx SMS69L12GB at £499
Miele G1022 at £519

Any recommendations or comments on the above? The man at Comet said the Bosch Logixx is a good machine but he'd recommend the Miele over it. HE said the Miele uses a laser system every 10 seconds to check how dirty the water was, but looking on the Miele website, it seems it's only the top of the range Miele that does that.

The Bosch Logixx has a laser system that checks if the water is clean, but it only fires three times during the wash so if it's not clean on the 2nd scan, it will continue until the 3rd (at the end).

We're ideally after the most efficient machine, but it's not completely clear on which is most efficient and what what wash setting.

Is it really worth spending £500 or so on a top of the range Bosch or a bottom of the range Miele? Or should we just spend £389 on the mid range Bosch?

Thanks for any help.

Dan

I think that a bottom of the range miele would be better. Less things to go wrong. I have stayed in lots of ski chalets with various vintages and they all seem to last well.

Neighbour (who is an expert on DWs) has a Siemens - the integrated model that projects a red light onto the floor so you now when it's done - and loves it.

We have a Bosch Classix something or other that we have had for years. Never missed a beat and was the cheapest Bosch in the shop when we bought it. Have never had a problem with anything Bosch and they are always my first choice appliance (no, I don't work for them).

We've got the G1022, which I bought last year when doing the revamp on our kitchen.

At the time it was 349 GBP and the Bosch dishwashers were actually more expensive, so it kind of made the decision easier.

The quality of the materials is top notch, the stainless is good quality, and after 18 months use, it still looks new.

It's very quiet in operation and other than soap tablets it has required nothing more.

Also has a good efficiency reating too.

I have a Bosch that shines the red dot on to the floor when it's active. I didn't know of this feature until the first time it was used, cue lots of "Come and look at this, how cool is that!". Hmm, a bit sad really.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, Siemens and Bosch are the same units apparently.

Which says that the Bosch SMS65E02GB Exxcel is the best we can get for our budget, but this seems to be an outdated model now so not really sure on what to do. It scored 72%, the Miele G1022 scored 69%. Both were best buys. The newer Bosch models haven't been tested yet which is annoying!!

The Siemens SN26M830GB seems to be highly regarded actually. The previous model (Siemens SN25M830) scored 71%. Also Siemens are doing 5 year warranty by redemption and £50 trade in for your old dishwasher. Quite tempting.

I'm rambling now, but the Siemens SN26M230GB is the same, but white. It's £479 but £50 when you trade in your old dishwasher, so ££429 including delivery.

Still not convinced it's better than the Miele, but Which says it is.....

Which? do tend to calculate their best buys on price as well, so the higher price of the Miele will effectively downgrade it's rating overall. If you ignore the overall score and look at the individual scores that you desire or are basing your purchase on.

Why not go and see both and let the looks decide?

Bosch and Siemens are indeed largely identical apart from the appearance; personally I prefer the more modern style of Siemens. And it sounds a bit more exclusive smile

Thanks. Will have another look on Which?

We went and saw the Miele at Comet but they didn't have the Bosch logixx there. They did have the next model down. Quite liked both of them, so need to find a Siemens to look at then.

We had a Miele - probably mid-range - for 5 years. Never missed a beat, built like a tank. Kitchen refitted and we went for integrated appliances - we wanted two dishwashers (Miele built in are very pricy) so got two upper range Neff, which I think are badge engineered Bosch. Never broken down, but do not feel like they will last forever, and all the swivelling glass supports and folding racks are retained by shoddy plastic clips that come adrift - half the wirework is now in a drawer. Wish we'd gone for Miele, and would not have anything else again.

Miele, only disadvantage is once you get one of their products you gradually replace all your appliances with the Miele ones.... They frequently give away free 5 year warrantees,

Recently dyson packed up, asked the cleaners what they wanted, instant reply 'miele, they just work!'

We put in Siemens appliances during our recent kitchen project.

The DW seems to be the weakest link though, giving rather inefficient cleaning. It is one of their more basic models in the range, and substantially cheaper than the equivalent Miele.

I like Miele stuff, but have a 10 year old Bosch Dishwasher that goes on at least once and often twice a day. It still works like new, you dont have to rinse stuff beforehand and it has a bigger capacity than any other domestic one I have seen 9we ordered the extra hight one, its built in but fits under a standard worktop)

Have tried many others in holiday villas, other peoples houses etc, but the Bosch out performs them all

All of our white goods with one exception are Bosch. 10 years and still going strong.
Our Dishwasher is a Seimens. It was given to us at 5 years old, so its 15 years old now and works like a dream (even if it an old fashioned thing).

I'll never buy another Bosch white goods item. We've a fridge and a tumble dryer and both have been problematic. Spares and service also poor - a broken bit of plastic on the td isnt available on its own they want over £100 for a full front panel instead (after selling me two useless incorrect bits first).

By contrast the Miele dishwasher goes round two or three times a day and has done for more than 10 years. I did have to replace the door cut out switch but that was easy and quick and the part was a sensible price.

I do suspect that new miele stuff may not be as good though. Our ancient Asko washer died last year and I replaced it with a miele which isnt as well built.

Miele.

Nothing like a well-considered opinion!
