996 turbo vs 997 gt3?

in terms of performance how do they compare?
i have driven a 997 gt3 and was blown away
by the handling,acceleration and sound
but after reading reviews about how the 996 tt
is a great bargain supercar ..i'm thinking maybe i should
find a nice 996tt for 35-40k as they are hopefully at the bottom of the curve in depreciation
and pocket the other 20k

Agree. Even if you compare the latest 997 Gt3 with the latest 997 Turbo, you're not really comparing like with like. In fact, they are both so good, but so different, that, with enough money, you could justify having both.
Better to establish your criteria and uses, then work out which best meets them.
t? What on earth value can that comparison have?If its performance your after, get yourself a 996tt. For only a few extra £K you can have a really powerful car. Some where in the region of 500 bhp if thats what you want and you will still have change to buy a Family run around. Or just spent more on the 996tt and have a monster 996tt. But to be honest a standard 996tt is a good car for just about all occasions.
Just my though on the subject.
ps you can get a decent 996tt for £28k - £35k. Its got to be a good one for 40K unless a GT2. Now there is a thought. Yum Yum.

According to Fastest laps, the 996TT is slightly faster to 62 and and the GT3 is slightly faster to everywhere else:

So I would think in the real world there's nothing in it! A fraction of a second here or there should not influence deciding which car to buy.
If you search this site there's great advice from owners and you'll read both cars are excellent in different ways.

I've driven a handful of 996tt, and I own a 997 GT3.
They are totally different cars. If you have the extra cash avail, the 997 GT3 is a better drive in every way in my book. For the money, the 996tt is a very capable car, and if you want to go fast and are happy to mod then you won't get near the straight line performance in any GT3. I have driven a modified 996tt with what was claimed to be 600bhp+ (bigger turbos etc...) and as fast as it was it left me feeling cold dynamically. The power just dominated the experience, and whilst it was very planted around corners - it was just crazy when getting on the power. A bit too quick for the road in my view, but you would annihilate most at the strip.
Interior in all 996 are fairly dated now, and the running components are getting on for 10 years old in the older examples so things are going to perish and if you want a Porsche warranty this will be increasingly difficult on all but the later 996tt examples.
997 GT3 is much better balanced, is RWD, sounds a lot nicer, interior is modern, easy to keep warranty as they are newer (if not modded). Its a car which you don't really need to mod in my view also, it's great fresh out of the box! That's all great, but it is £20k+ more than a 996tt, so weigh up your budget and needs from the car and go from there... Maybe 996GT2 is a good car to look at also, sits in the middle price wise and has the GT running components, RWD, turbo motor, best of both worlds? Finding a good one will not be easy though...

Who leaves their 996tt stock? It's so easy and affordable to get it to 600-700 bhp. Anybody have tracktimes for that? Most likely the GT3 still wins but it's probably much closer. As for everyday experience, I love the brutal slingshot of my 996tt (ca. 630 bhp) so much, I can hardly imagine a GT3 being more fun (I don't track).
Performance wise there is not much in it. However the GT cars, IMHO, aren't that good on the old body on long journeys or maybe I am getting old. On a B road with a crap surface it can be a bit of a battle to get it from a - b swiftly where as the turbo is way more compliant. On track however its a different kettle of fish, the GT3 will be the better the car.
I had a 996 turbo which was quite modded and it was an excellent car, I now own a 997 GT3 and it's an awesome car, not the same brutal shove in the back you get from the turbo but when the revs get past 6000rpm the pace it goes is scary, it's too fast for my skills i'm sure, but i love it, oh and the sound, did i not mention the sound, release the Kracken.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekoKgoTY4qI
