I've recenly bought an E36 M3 Evolution. The cam cover with "BMW M Power" on it in raised letters looks like it's held on by 4 allen bolts. Can anyone tell me if there is a gasket on this too? I want to polish up the writing as it's slightly tarnished, and it would be easier with it off the car. I'm reluctant to just take it off then find I need to get a new gasket before putting it back.
Thanks in advance.

No gasket on that section, it just hides the coil packs.
Be careful with the allen bolts as they can often strip if they are tightened too much.

If you have a whetstone for knife sharpening, a few rubs on that will shine the letters to a smooth milled finish.

Brilliant, thanks for that. I plan to use very fine wet and dry on a block, then a polishing buff, then Autosol. Always get good results with that method.

Renew the 4 bolts while you're there - they cost very little from the dealer.

I did mine when I got my M3 - rubbed it down, painted the whole thing satin black and then rubbed over the letters with a block of wet/dry, not an amazing job but looks better than it did smile
