AFAIK they are a modified Ford part and also Ithink the LHS and RHS ones are different.

It was suggested on here previously that they were Granada parts but whan a mate was scrapping a Granny we found that the drives off it were different to the drives on my Cerb.

I snapped one a while back so replaced them both with up rated ones, still have the other old one if you want a standard replacement.

If your 97 car still has its original CV joints, it should fit fine, if they have been replaced at any point there could be problems. This is because TVR found they couldn’t get hold of the same CVs after a certain point so changed the drive shaft splines to match the newer CVs. Generally if you try to buy a new drive shaft now they only want to sell you one that has both CVs matched to it as a set. If there is too much play they say the impact force from that movement will snap the shaft very quickly.

Both sides are definitely the same and are interchangeable. I think that they are the same shaft as a Sierra Cosworth though I believe the CV joints are different.

Its the same for them, if you still have your 97 CVs they should fit. If you have already ordered them all ready, the best thing to do is to just try them with your CVs. I just got the uprated ones (think they must have been the race proved ones) that come with out the CVs & used my old ones. But we've had the Cerb since around the time TVR changed the design (2000 ish) so could be quite sure they were the originals.
It may be an idea to change the CV boots while you are at it, I think it's Lotus Carlton that the CVs came from but ask for boots off them & you'll get a funny look from the parts shop! I think I used just the normal Carlton boots, but the best bet would be to get the right ones from the same place you got the shafts. If you take the CVs apart, careful putting them back they only go one way & if you put them back the other they lock up hard & getting them apart again is a right pig....

The race proved/clever trevor boots are much better... Less likely to damage and better access to the cap heads

see link above..

For goodness sake don't pay TVR specialist prices for CV Boots. FCB2196 are £5.36 from RoadRunner and if you need the joints themselves they are only £44 from Prolinx

These are the same parts that you can find with a 300% markup from some specialists.

The part numbers are - not sure about the specific suppliers. I will stick the CV joint link in there. I replaced all mine a little while ago and they supply the genuine GKN article. Good service too.

All btr diffed cars use the same cv joint, originally used for the Porsche 930 turbo. If you want uprated cv's,(you won't hear of too many GKNs letting go though) and drive shafts, check out the pro dune buggy sites in the US. The majority use 930 gear, and you will find drive shafts sizes and strengths to suit.

For example, www.racereadyproducts.com/cv-joints/930-cv-joint click on the sub menu, "axles" for driveshafts, sway away have a good rap, but plenty of others out there.
