Well the 120d has gone thanks to PH and we have just bought a Fiesta 1.25 Zetec for swmbo who loves it and is finding it much better on her back to get in and out of,result!

But it now means we gotta get another for my daily but short grind to work.Yes I tried cycling for 6mths and was almost killed to death several times during that period. So we have a budget of 4-5k at the most and we are looking for something with a bit of class and some shove but does not have to be monstrous power.Fuel consumption should be mid twenties knocking about with the possibility of more on longer runs.A sportier ride with good roadholding as opposed to a blancmange ride would be preferred. So what do you think?

Thanks all

£4-5k would get you an excellent Fiat 20v Turbo Coupe. Alfa Romeo GTs are beginning to dip into that bracket now too.

E46 330i Sport? Not driven one but I'd imagine it would be a nice blend of power and comfort.

Indeed. Buy my individual spec 740 sport off me. Please. You'll save my driving licence as it's way too easy to go over speed limits in.

Thanks guys im thinking BM is the way to go:

5 series I think would be at the top of the list followed by the 3 then the 7.

I guess the sport in each version would be give a good compromise between ride and handling.

The 8 series suggested is lovely but maybe a shame to use as a daily.I should have mentioned there are 3 of us so a Z3 is out.

I've been fairly set on a 330ci soon as I start working again, however I'm being tempted by the X type 3.0 which has much of the performance of the Beemer for about 60% of the price.

Yeah I was looking at the Jag 3.0 X Type with a manual box but need to read up on build quality and reliability.
