Shimano Tiagra - Adjusting/repairing
Discussion
Can anyone point me in the direction of instructions as to how to re-index my rear derailleur? Rather unhelpfully the tech docs pages of the Shimano website are off line at present.
I would like to try basic fixes before going to the expense of renewing components (which may be nearing the end of their life after 7500 miles).
Many thanks for any advice.

I think it used to be put it in the second smalllest sprocket on the rear and tighten the cable on the rear derailure adjustment until is just tries to ride up unitl the next gear. When that happens back off the cable tension until the noise stops.

the "how to" guides on the park tools website are brilliant.
failing that, put the chain on the little chainring, push it on to the biggest sprocket with your hands and adjust accordingly using the "l" screw to get movement down to 6 or 7.
then repeat with the chain on the largest chainring, push the chain with your hands again into the smallest sprocket and adjust with the "h" screw to go from 9 to about 3.
you shouldnt be using the small sprockets with the small chainring and big sprockets with big chainrings and only voodoo witchcraft could get the rear sprockets working well in both/three chainrings...
